PBCC-palm beach comm. college

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.

I read on line that this school works on a point system

I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program

(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO

WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.

Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.

Thanks

i just called indian river, they told me that the test is only offered to their students:banghead:. you and another friend of mines told me that i could have taken it there. i guess their policies have changed.

what am i going to do now (crying)

Danoob, a warm welcome to allnurses.

Thanks, I have been lurking for a couple of years. Good to finally post something.

sorry,,,, try calling rhonda boles nursing program specialist 868 3441

see if she could help you maybe they will add a seat for you, I have heard of them doing that sometimes.. call now though today is last day are there till the 1/5

the only other option I think is pensacola

mdc only offers the LPN NLN test.

Pensacola Junior College offers the RN test often. I think either Mar or May is the next available, before that is full. They only offer it to PJC students so you will have to apply there and send your trancripts and then take a long drive or fly.

Mystical said that Indian river offers it, I have heard that before too but I don't see it in the NLN website.

is it really like everyone says, you have no life.....

Is it really hard???

sorry for all the questions

thanks

I went to Lake Worth Campus. First semester was about what I expected. It starts off pretty hectic, but slows down a little bit after clinicals get going.

Books that I didn't use this semester but may use in second were:

The Essentials of Nursing Care, Planning and Documentation--Didn't use this at all.

Fluid & Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy--you touch on fluids and electrolytes, but just introductory and I found the lecture textbook had all the information I needed. I think it will be usefull in second.

Nutrition book--didn't buy one or need it.

There are two nursing diagnosis books:

Mosby's Guide to Nursing Diagnosis

and The Nursing Diagnosis Handbook

They are pretty much the same, but the blue one (nursing diagnosis handbook i think) has the rationales, and is the only one I used. I have it on PDA. The other book is yellow and I did not use it at all. The yellow one is smaller and one of the teachers said you could bring it to clinicals or something, but I didn't really do any care plan stuff during clinicals first semester.

Thank you for the info. Did you use the PDA a lot?

i thought it was more challenging than pre req's, but more because it was a lot different. i took pharm over the summer so i didn't have that extra work added on top of everything else. i found time to spend with my daughter and made sure to take some time for myself.

the pda was awesome once i got used to it. i got a few of the required books on pda and used it quite a bit in clinical. i have a palm tx and got the skyscape constellation plus. i also added the diagnoses book. i don't recall a lot of people with pda's so it's definitely not required, but i found it was very helpful.

I just bought a PDA and I downloaded epocretes... I was able to find beiks medical dictionary. I have not been able to set it up to the PDA yet but, I am very impressed with the device so far. I got a HP iPAQ.

Thank you again

i just called indian river, they told me that the test is only offered to their students:banghead:. you and another friend of mines told me that i could have taken it there. i guess their policies have changed.

what am i going to do now (crying)

go ahead and become a student at Indian reiver... the application cannot be more than $ 30 and $5 to send the transcripts.... I am sure you can do the registration online... you dont have to take classes. you only have to be a "student"

after you take the test you can request NLN to send the results to PBCC. the will charge you something like $25 a lot better than losing a term.

2bnurse-1,

So sorry to hear about the NLN. DId you find anywhere else to take it. I hope you can get a seat through PBCC through Rhonda. I will be praying for you to get a seat. Welcome Danoob.

mystical gave me the number to call, when i called on Friday it seems she already left or the day. Thanks Mystical. So i guess i have to wait till January, I'm relly praying for a seat too cuz i dont want to go to the hassle of applying to Indian Rive , but as Diver said its better that waiting till next selection. Keep your fingers cross for me.

Just my 2cents on this new design, I like it some what but i rather the old layout. With the old one I could see who was on, that helped cause Im at work and if I see my friend on I will say in the room and chat. Also i like it when they had the green dot that showed if the user is on or not. I think either one of those functions would be useful.

also when i access allnurses from my cell phone , it comes with all the uncessary topics and forums that I'm not intersted in.

no prob 2b,,, I agree I dont really care 2 much for this new set up....

At least you have an option with indian river.... So BCC doesnt make you take the NLN?
