Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.
I read on line that this school works on a point system
I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program
(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO
WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.
Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.
Thanks
I know that its been something BCC claims they were going to do for several years now, however, the Assistant Dean of North campus says they are going to be requiring the HESI entrance exam starting with those applying for the Jan 2010 class.
And I have to agree with Mystical about how strange it is for all these schools to require different classes. That's one of the reasons I'm not going to apply at PBCC, otherwise I will have to wait a while before I do. I only have Chem, Enc1101, A&P1 and lab done now, and I will have A&P 2 and lab and Micro and lab done when I apply. There's a bunch of other classes I would need for PBCC and I don't want to waste more time taking more pre-reqs, you know?
So going to bcc you dont need nutrition, or psycology or human growth and development.. do you take these classes when you are in nursing school?
You don't need nutrition or human growth and dev at all. Now if you want to get your BSN you will eventually need to take these, but not to graduate BCC's program.
The only pre-reqs needed to apply to be in the program are:
Enc1101
BSC1085
BSC1085L
BSC1086
BSC1086L
Chm1032
The other grad. requirements are (these do not need to be done before you are in the program, but need to be done by the time you're out of the program):
MCB2010 (micro)
MCB2010L
Behavorial Science (I happened to take pysch, if I had thought more about it before, or had been advised properly, I would have taken human growth and dev, but can't do anything about that now.)
Writing Humanities
Nursing Math (but you can't take this until you are in the program, and its taken during the first semester in)
Pharmacology (but you can't take this until you are in the program, and its taken during the first semester in)
I think almost everyone takes these before they get into the program. I will be taking micro after I apply, while I am waiting to hear my reply.
MDC only looks and your overall GPA. No point system, no admission test. I am not too sure that GPA along predicts how well a person will do in a nursing program.
This is very true, as I have heard some people have failed classes in the nursing program and had 4.0 GPA's going in. People could have taken very easy professors to get that GPA, while others who have lower GPA could have taken harder professors.
Wow thats preety cool, U need all that done before you get into the nursing program at pbcc (except for pharm that is done before or during 1st semester of NS) pbcc as I am sure you are aware of goes by a point system so those classes that u dont have to have for bcc are worth points... so its best you have them done b4 you apply
Yeah, its cool, but i think almost everyone takes the classes before they start the program. It's really difficult to try to take them while in the program. We go by a point system as well. Its based only on the GPA of the pre-reqs (16 pts for a 4.0, 15 pts for a 3.9, etc), and you get 1 pt if you are a Broward resident, and 5 pts if you were part of HOSA in high school. They don't use your GPA for micro, behav. sci or the humanities classes unless there are ties that need to be broken.

BCC does not require an entrance test. But i believe once you get accepted you take the TABE test which is like high school level material. In all honesty PBCC is my first choice of school, then South University and then BCC.
Hows your day going so far? I'm so happy school is out:) I have to go to the mall today...i dislike shopping in crowds.
