PBCC-palm beach comm. college

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.

I read on line that this school works on a point system

I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program

(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO

WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.

Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.

Thanks

I know it stinks but I got denied for fall 08' at Lake Worth. Then I took the NLN again n got a higher score to get in this semester. For those of you who want to apply fall09' at Lake Worth, the least amount of points to get in was 25.25. My suggestion would be do really well on the NLN.

thanks girl, im kind of sad right now...actually im writing with water in my eyes. i will be back in a few days.

I know exactly how you feel, everyday gets better!!!

and have all the pre-requisites done, missing micro and a & p ii really hurt me; that's 6 points there.

if anyone has taken pharmacology online can you tell me about your experiences in the class?

if we do not take the class before getting into the program by what point are we required to take it.

any info will be greatly appreciated.

I took Intro to Pharm online with the teacher Carol Alexander. I ended up dropping the class. You really need to study a lot for this class and I didn't care for the teacher either.

If you are accepted into the program you have to take it the first semester.

Specializes in ED.
I am so sorry... I know how it feels.

How does bcc work, does it go by a point system as well?

well done @micro

Mystical-

BCC works on a point system as well. You get up to 16 pts for your GPA. The GPA is only the GPA of your pre-reqs, not your total of all classes. The pre-req classes are:

Enc1101

Chem1032

BSC1085

BSC1085 Lab

BSC1086

BSC1086 Lab

A 4.0 is 16 pts, 3.9 is 15 pts, 3.8 is 14pts, etc. etc.

Then you get 1 pt for being a Broward resident.

YOu get 5 pts for completing some HOSA requirement, which I think means if you complete the HOSA core class, you get those pts.

The highest pt total you can recieve is 22. However, if there are ties, they then look at other general ed classes you've taken- only those that count towards the Nursing degree, such as Micro, Pharm etc.

They give you 1 pt for each of those classes you've completed.

I have heard if you have a 3.0 or higher, you're pretty much in. I'm interested in seeing if this is true since I will be applying in either the next cycle or the one after that. I'd love to find out how exactly they figure out the GPA's because if the class is 1 credit hour as compared to 3 credit hours, they are weighted differently and an A in the 1 credit hr class will not mean as much as it does in the 3 hr class, or so I've heard.

For those of you that didnt get in please dont give up. I know that you are feeling frusturated right now, but dont let them get to you. You guys seem to know what you want, and dont let anyone tell you that you cant do what you have dreamed of doing. Good luck, and I know that even though it doesnt seem like it right now your dreams will come true if you keep working as hard as you already are.

I am taking her now.. doesnt respond to emails in a timely fashion.. you are pretty much on your own taking her class

I believe you have to take pharm the first semester of nursing school. Its alot of reading... I have taken many online classes... this so far is the worst as far as the response time to emails, I had to email her 3 times before getting a response.. and she didnt answer my questions.. gave some off the wall answer that had nothing to do with my questions.. I am now waiting for a response to an email now send twice still no response... but belle glade doesnt have many teachers it seems for 1st semester there is only 2.. hope this helps

how is everyone doing? today is the big day...did you all go out and vote? already i started to hear of problems with the voting machines ohh well thats Florida for yah. lets hope its not as chaotic as the last election.

Hi 2bnurse-1,

Glad to see your back online. I voted today. No problem at my polling place. I guess we will see when the count down starts tonight.
