Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of study for the nurse Procalc and the NLN entrance exam for PBCC fall nursing program.

I read on line that this school works on a point system

I was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to the program

(past/Present) student: HOW MANY POINTS DID YOU HAVE TO

WHEN ACCEPTED TO THE PROGRAM.

Anyone with info about the program, would be helpful.

Thanks

thank you for the info. krislynn, i think i'll make an appointment with the health department to get the medical done. i hope they send the rest of the information soon.

SO I have a friend who started this semester. He suggested not to take the critical thinking, I have to take a pharm, it would be too much. He said to go to Barnes and Noble and get a fundamentals of nursing book and study now. He sent me his acceptance package and there was A LOT more info there than in ours! He gave me the number to the MNS Manegment, the company that does the background check and drug screening. It does say in the packet that there will be more info to follow....but this all has to be turned in within a month! Also, if you don't have insurance or your insurance doesn't cover the vaccines required, he told me to make an appointment at the health department, it's cheaper(sometimes). Congrats to everyone! And if you didn't get in...keep working and we will see you in the fall!

Is the Critical Thinking a lot of work? I hear that it's a valuable class to take because it teaches things you need to know in the nursing field. Anyone else have any comments on this?

i heard the same thing. i also heard that if you take this and pharm together plus nursing 1, clinicals, and skills lab that it would be extremely tough. I am registered for critical thinking now, but am thinking about maybe dropping it. You could always take it over the summer after the first semester is over. I def want to take it, but i dont want to kill myself doing it.

what are ppl taking intro to pharm? or pharm for nurses?

That's a good point. I'll probably just take it over the summer. Im taking NUR2140. If you want to get your BSN that's the pharm you should take.

If you have already been accepted to the program. DO NOT TAKE CRITICAL THINKING DURING SEMESTER 1. Especially if you are taking pharm. Between lecture and skills the course load is hard to manage. Many who took pharm simultaneoulsy struggled and thats without Critical Thinking. You are going to learn to critically think. You will have to in order to pass the exams! Even those that only had Sem 1 lecture, skills and clinical struggled. This will be a big commitment. Plan your time well. I took pharm with sem 1 and passed but if Critical thinking was in the mix, No way.

Hello peops,

I hope everything is coming together for all of you.

I have a few things that are not done yet but hope to complete all requirements within the week. Still have not visited that store (copy's) to get uniforms, etc.... so excited about the uniform but not too thrilled about looking so plain and will miss showing off skin when my ankles are crossed. lol

Is anyone getting the lab coat or the PBSC nursing sweater? Which would you recommend?

Did you guys get your shots done, if yes where did you go?

Heads up on the sweater, if they're still doing "one size fits all" then it is HUGE.

And to anyone taking pharm along side nursing, be prepared. You're going to have an exam every week, alternating pharm and nursing. If you have to sacrifice one, put pharm aside. You can always retake it over the summer.

Congrats to all who got in. I am currently in 3rd semester and would not recommend taking critical thinking; especially, if taking pharm with 1st semester nursing. I never took it and neither did a bunch of my classmates. You will be plenty stressed with just the nursing courses. I would recommend getting your books and starting to read before classes start. The amount of reading can be overwhelming. Review books like either Reviews and rationales or straight A's really help too. You can get them at any bookstore. Also start practicing NCLEX style questions. :yeah:

happyjj777, i agree completely with you. that would be overwhelming. i was just curious about who was planning to take the critical thinking class because after reading the info packet, they recommend that students take critical thinking since they have a greater success rate in the nursing program. it is not mandatory, but i am really glad for the feedback. i picked up 4 classes already and don't plan on taking that class, i know my limits.

i thought it was mandatory to get pharm. out of the way within the first semester, i had no idea that it could be done during the summer. i am currently reading the pharm book to somewhat get prepared and prevent myself from getting overwhelmed. it's really good to know about this option just in case.

"heads up on the sweater, if they're still doing "one size fits all" then it is huge."

i know the hospitals are cold so i hope the coat will suffice. i guess i can now stop watching episodes of scrubs for ideas.

klee18, i wish i could close my eyes, open them, and be a third semester student too.:smokin: i will stop by booksmart tomorrow and see if they have the books you recommended.

thank you guys for the response

In both of my rotations this semester, they will not let us wear the lab coat since the professors wear white lab coats and they don't want to confuse any of the nurses or patients.

Specializes in CVICU, CCU, MICU.
