I'm sure this will raise a lot of peoples temp, but why is there so much whining about being underpaid and overworked?

OK, I retract whining and will replace with venting. Like I said, not trying to infuriate, but it is a nice little discussion, and helping to put some perspective to the venting. Thanks for the comments, all of them.

JOsh, none of of "mind" doing our jobs, is all the bull droppings that goes along with it. I have literally either saved or help save hundreds of lives over 16 years, 12 of which have been in critical care. I don't expect applause, but I would like to make enough money to keep up with the economy and pay my bills.

Like someone else mentioned, a football or b-ball player making $20 mil a year is a "tad" overpaid, don't you think? How many lives have they saved? Would they even know how to? Many of these "pro" sports players couldn't even get through college on their own merit. Have you heard some of them talk?

It's just amazing to me what American's find as important and valuable. And I'm an American! I can, however, say I have never paid any money to go to a sporting event or pay per view game - so I feel I'm not perpetuating the wasting of millions on young men who can run fast and knock people down, but can't put together a proper sentence.

I know I am in trouble here, but I am qualified to speak here, as I am one. Nursing is still predominantly female, and you know what we can be like every four weeks :argue:. I will retreat now:D

I agree, I agree! I love how I'm defending myself:). Like I said my background includes mental health, Marine Corps, firefighter, farmworker, construction, all sorts of things. Most of them helping others. I applaud every nurse out there for what they do, but it was an honest question, matbe not worded to well though. And like I posted earlier, $20 mil to play a game of any type, and all that they do for people;) is absurd.

:sniff::bluecry1: I don't think anyone has ever questioned that theory, I don't know what to say now :confused: :rolleyes: . Don't women go crazy post menopause?.

My new theory:

Half the women in nursing are hormonal, while the other half are just plain crazy. :yeah:

I'm not a nurse yet, but I'd like to join in this conversation. I think nurses are paid what they are because it is a typically "female" professions, and historically those haven't paid well. I was a public school teacher for many years and it was shocking how low I was paid.

I paid a plumber who was recently licensed $65 an hour...which was less than his friends were charging that had been licensed for a few yrs. Will I ever make $65 an hour even with experience? And did he have to worry about errors that would kill someone?

Just saying, I have worked in mental health for 7 years barely making peanuts for pay. I work to keep people from hanging themselves, keep them out of state hospitals and living somewhat independently, etc.. Our team is 24/7 and way overworked. I'm starting nursing school next monday, but the negativity(although there are great positive posts also) just make me think, why did ya'll become nurses if it's so horrible?

Wait until you get out there and then you'll understand. I couldn't see why before I was a RN, either.

I'll just point out too - with as sue happy as the world is today - it is a dangerous profession to get into from that standpoint. You don't do everything perfectly in a fast paced high intensity situation and you are in a courtroom. How many other professions recommend personal ? (Other than the docs)
