A patient complained to my boss , who doesn't like me anyway, and I got a written final notice! Any advice?

I agree. Much better to resign or transfer than get fired.

Plus it's easier to secure the next job while you're currently employed. A lot of employers are a little wary of unemployed applicants, particularly if they were working just a few weeks ago. That's why I suggested the agency/registry: you can resign from this job and still be employed somewhere while hunting for the next long-term home.

I've learned over the years that, if I basically like my job, to gracefully accept my manager's imperfections. I try to be tolerant and positive, thanking them for their hard work.

If it was me, I would ask specifically what the complaint was. I would then compare dates, times, actions - anything I'd charted - and provide additional documentation to the supervisor. If the supervisor cannot provide that data, did it really happen?

I'd also look for that other job....

This is true for life as well as with the work place. There is something to be said for a "Go along to get along attitude." I have a very "Out there" personality and there are times I have to tone it down when certain supervisor who does not appreciate my style asks for something I don't agree with. My stock answer to such persons is "Absolutely, I'll take care of that right away." If this supervisor has enough on you to fire you for progressive discipline then you must take a hard look at yourself to see what part if any of the concerns you own. There is a old saying that "Wherever you go there you are." Chances are if one person didn't like your style others down the line won't like it either. Unless you are independently wealthy and are working for your own amusement you most likely need to be employed to pay your bills and take care of your responsibilities.

Look for another job but do an honest self appraisal. Nursing is a very small world and you do run the risk of becoming unemployable.

I would definitely need to know what the complaint was. Also, your boss is not a nurse? They don't understand it, anyway, then. I'd find a new job. Your job sounds like it sucks and I personally feel only nurses should manage other nurses. I'd find a new job and happily serve them a two week notice the moment I could. Unsupportive employers are never worth it.

I've seen management skip steps in progressive discipline if they feel the offense was serious enough and/or didn't like the person. Either way the OP appears not to take seriously the situation and her actions. She is very matter of fact about fighting with the manager and not seemingly concerned that he doesn't like her. It is a big deal, ideally you want your boss to like you or at least respect you and if you are going to argue over something that it is important enough to stand your ground, not argue over ever little thing.

Fail to see the problem. I have had many managers that were nurses. Any nurse manager, can surely be the manager from Hades.
