Well, I thought this thread might stick around a bit longer if the title was more obvious. So, I am posting my cpne experience here instead of "Anticoag nurse passed the cpne"... I'll start with general tips from my experience: I also have a very long journal recollection type thing (4 typed pages of my pcs experiences and a long 2 page recall of my sim labs). I really think they are too lengthy to post here, so if you would like, pm me and I will email them and please feel free to keep and pass on to others in the future.
I introduced the CE even though the patient already knew who they were.
I was assigned for all 3 PCS:
meds
I&O
comfort
Apical Pulse on all pts. and vitals
Other AREAS assigned ( but not every pt. )
Musculoskeletal Assess
Neuro Assess
Abdominal Assess
Wound Management
Respiratory Assess and Management
Skin Assess
Comfort Care of 2 of my 3 pts.
Ambulated 2 of my patients, declared CDM on last pt. and ended my 3rd PCS early due to pt. change in condition.
Make sure you notify staff nurse of ANY change of condition or abnormal vitals, ASAP!!!
CEs seem to be impressed if you are able to include comfort measures on your pts, even if not assigned. ( I included it on all of mine )
Find good stress management techniques, you'll need it!!
PRACTICE! PRACTICE ! PRACTICE!
how did you do?
my testing date will be february 29 to march 2, 2008. i will be testing in plano, tx.i've purchased the lab-station practice kit (very handy) and though i have bought and borrowed everyone else's flash cards, i find that my own based off of the cpne study guide are just the ones i like best.
i'd like to know, however, if the ces prefer whether you introduce them to the patient or not. i've heard that when you enter the room, wash your hands and introduce yourself, to pretend that the ce does not even exist. any words on that?
thank you.
I just took the CPNE and you are at the hospital on the 1st day for the skills labs from 4:30-7:30pm. The 2nd day starts at 7:30 am and ends about 1:30 pm and last day is at 7:30 am-10:15am and then you are done if you dont have to do any repeats! But this all could depend on your test site, so double check where you are applying to!
Just to let everyone know. I just posted an updated version of my CPNE study notes. What makes this so cool is that I had a tremendous amount of help from Lisa, a friend of mine who is a paramedic, ER nurse, and recent graduate of Excelsior College. Of course many of you know Lisa as the ever helpful LunahRN. She did a significant amount of writing and editing of this document and did a great job with redoing my less than stellar "grid". Additionally, two more "grid" drawings were added to give a better idea of how to actually put one together step by step. Again, many thanks to Lisa for her help with this update. I couldn't have done it without her.
I'm trying to figure out how to send you a personal request for the documents you are willing to share. :) Please send me a message. thank you!

i would introduce the CE as my instructor. don't think it would be polite to just ignore them, plus the patient has the right to know who's who.
