I have been freaking out for the past two months studying for the PSB. I took it on 8/29/08 for admittance to UPMC Shadyside. Well I just got my results back.....99 percentile for verbal, 99 for math, 99 for reading comp, and 98 for natural sciences!!!!:loveya:I'm shocked!!! I started hardly knowing anything about natural sciences!!! I've been out of school for a while. I'm really ecstatic. If anyone has any questions about the test, I'd be happy to answer them. Also, with my test results, are my chances pretty high for getting into Shadyside? Thanks!
My essay was 1 1/2 pages long. I am in my second year at Shadyside, and I love it. If I can answer any questions, let me know. If you did well on the psb, then I am sure you will get in. Good luck!
Does the school help at all with placing you in any type of nursing assistant job? I'm working as a TSS right now, but I would like to start working in a hospital to get some experience. Also, will the school contact me about the tuition loan? I didn't get any info about it in my acceptance letter.
Thanks!
Hi Megan, I start in March as well! As far as the tuition thing goes, I believe they will go over it at the information session in December. I will be there December 11th, so if you aren't there that day I will post what they say on here. Did you happen to get your fingerprints done yet? I still haven't gotten anything in the mail yet and I know they are due in December so I am getting pretty frustrated!
Who else starts in March 09?

When you go for your information session, they will give you the loan forgiveness papers and if you want to sign them you can. When you start classes in March, the recruiters from Shadyside hospital will come to the school and give information about working as a NA. I just started working as a casual NA at Shadyside and I have to say that it has already helped me in my nursing classes. If you want to start before March, call the hospital and talk to the nurse recruiter. They need people all the time, and they like to hire nursing students. Let me know if I can help in any other way!

Hey Steph,
whats all this about the information session being December 11th? The deadline for the applications is not until December 19th. I thought the orientation or information session was in February before we start classes in March. If I've got this wrong please let me know. Also what did you mean when you said fingerprints were due in December? I'm still waiting to find out if I've been accepted or not so maybe all this stuff is in the packet you receive when you've been accepted. Any info would be appreciated. Hopefully I'll get my letter soon!

Sorry!!!:bowingpur I didn't mean to startle you. I received my acceptance letter a few months ago so maybe that's why. I had initially applied for this years fall program but they "never received" my transcripts even though I had paid for them and my other school said they were sent. sooo... needless to say I wasn't able to get in this fall. THey held my application for spring and I guess that's why I got everything early. Don't worry though, my cousin and friend are also applying and they didn't receive any information yet. There must be an early information session and another one after they send out the rest of the acceptance letters. Good Luck!! :)
Hi all - I appreciate this thread, it's definitely giving me a better understanding of what to expect on the PSB test. I've worked in an office setting at UPMC for 8 years, and have been out of high school for 13 years. So needless to say, I am very nervous about the test I'm taking on Dec. 3. Mainly, I'm concerned about the science section, as I see many were themselves on here. Is that the biggest part of the test? I've been studying the ARCO book, and I'm realizing how little I remember from science! Are there any other study guides out there that will help me, or should a general biology book put me on the right track?
i take the test the DAY AFTER TOMORROW. i already have butterflies!!! i had called a coworker of mine's wife, who had taken the test from shadyside a few years ago, and she said i should just brush up on cell knowledge, and chemistry. I'm thinking it shouldn't be that bad, I took AP Biology my senior year of HS (2007) and got a 4/5 on the test. Regardles...... I'm still studying. I have the ARCO book..and when I read it the first time i just about died. It is comforting, though, to know that it really over-trains you and makes the test super easy.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 48 hours. actually, less than that... more like 36. that's terrifying.

Hi Bonnie,
I had in everything but my letter of recomm. in September, but since one of them got lost, Natalie had me fax over my last one last Tuesday and I got my letter on Saturday. I'm sure you got in with your scores, I would just call to make sure everything was received because I think the class is filling up quickly. As far as my essay was concerned, mine was only 1.5 pages long. Drop a line when you get your acceptance letter!! See you in March:)
