Passed The Psb!! Upmc Shadyside

Hi all - I'm sorry, I know this is off subject. But I know a majority of you have dealt with this. Unfortunately, I'm having problems getting my fingerprint report. When I originally registered over a month ago, the Cogent rep told me I didn't need to opt for the paper report, because the schools access the reports online now. Well, that has created a HUGE mess, because SHY can't access them online (would've been nice to know that it's only K-12). So if I can't get this report printed by Monday, I can't start this semester. I tried talking to my local school district, and they just won't budge, stating they're not allowed to do that. Joanne though has told me that several students had the same problem as I did, and were able to get their school districts to print the report for them. She doesn't know what school districts they were. Does anyone know where I can get this thing printed????? I'm desperate now and willing do do/pay whatever is necessary. I just talked to Cogent and they said there's nothing I can do to get a printed report! Arrrrrrgh -

OMG, I'm having the same problem you are! Joanne called me this morning and told me that if I don't have this paper in, I can't start school either. I called my local school district and they can't do it because they will face federal charges. I don't know what else to do! If you find out which school district is willing to print off the records, please let me know. This is a nightmare!

Any future students - make sure you opt to get the PAPER report, as Shadyside doesn't tell you this, and as you can see, creates huge problems if you don't. I have several calls out to people I know within UPMC and another school district. I'll keep you in the loop if I find out anymore information. The countdown begins . . . UGH.

i had the same problem... what i did was call the dept of education in harrisburg and explain the situation to them. this was on monday. on wed i had the report . now the first person i called said that it could not be done but i just kept calling back and explaining it and once i got to the person in charge of sending them out she agreed to send one that very day and she was true to her word as i got it on wed. i cant think of her last name but her first name was mary - 717 783 3750. she just asked for all my information and then said she would take care of it. so if you can get a hold of her and she can send it you could get it by monday just in the nick of time. i do want to point out though that i think the entire situation is unfair because the reality of it is that we were sent to the wrong website and then were basically told to work it out on our own. we were supposed to go through the dept of public works not the dept of education.

i will say this though no matter what you are ever told ALWAYS get your own copy when you can. i actually did request the paper copy but it still has not come. it was supposed to come from conget but of course it has yet to show up i was just lucky that persistance paid off an i got the dept of ed to send it to me.

Do you happen to have a phone number. The woman I talked to wasn't exactly the friendliest, and just said "sorry, you're out of luck". Not even sure if I was calling the right place though . . .

I just called the office and they said I can come pick up the copy of the document in Dublin, Ohio. I feel like this is my only option left because I've called that number that was given and they can't do anything for me. Let me know what you guys are doing.

hey sometimes you have to go to great lenghts to get what you want i am just glad you found a way to get it. i am not sure why the dept of education is unwilling to help you because mary was very nice and understanding of my problem and was great about helping. how far away is that from pittsburgh maybe those that still need theirs can pool together and go

What extension are you guys dialing? If you press 1 for the background checks - there's no way to reach a human . . .

Dublin is about 3 1/2 hours away - ARRRRRGH - I guess that's what we'll have to do if that's our only option they're giving us. This is ridiculous . . . .

that is what i had to do too. i just kept calling. it goes to voicemail if they are on the line but you can eventually get a live person. but considering how hard we have all worked to get to this point we cant let the fact that the school made a mistake they are not willing to be responsible for stop us now. get on the road girls!

I spoke with someone from the cogent office in Dublin, Ohio and he is going to try and overnight my form to me. However if he can't guarantee that he can get it to me by tomorrow, I'm just going to drive there and pick it up. They are open from 8-5 tomorrow. What's everyone else doing?

From what I understand, the fingerprints aren't required until you do your peds rotation. And since you guys won't be doing clinical this semester, I don't understand why they are making such a big deal about it. Where did you get the fingerprints done? Maybe they have some kind of copy? Or maybe call the state and see if there is something they can do? Sorry about what you are going through.
