Passed The Psb!! Upmc Shadyside

Published

I have been freaking out for the past two months studying for the PSB. I took it on 8/29/08 for admittance to UPMC Shadyside. Well I just got my results back.....99 percentile for verbal, 99 for math, 99 for reading comp, and 98 for natural sciences!!!!:loveya:I'm shocked!!! I started hardly knowing anything about natural sciences!!! I've been out of school for a while. I'm really ecstatic. If anyone has any questions about the test, I'd be happy to answer them. Also, with my test results, are my chances pretty high for getting into Shadyside? Thanks!

Your group should be stated on your schedule sheet under "UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing Class of 2010D Day".

I think we're in the same Microbiology class! I have NUR 100 lab on Tues 1 - 2:30, Anatomy lab on Wednesdays from 10 - 12, A&P from 8:15 - 11:15 and NUR 100 from 1 - 3:30 on Thursdays, then Micro lab from 8 - 10, NUR 101 lab from 11 - 12:30 and NUR 101 from 1:30 - 4 on Fridays.

Just in case anyone expecting their fingerprints has not received them yet . . . I haven't received mine yet either. I called Cogent to make sure they went out last week - they did, but they didn't use the fed ex to arrive by 10 a.m. - they used the one to arrive by 3 pm - ARRRGH. I asked if they could email the reports - but they won't do that. They gave me my tracking number, and it's on the truck (I'm about to go out and look for that truck LOL!!). I printed the tracking info for Joanne just in case I don't get it by the time I have to leave here - hoping that will at least prove it's here!! The lady at Cogent said there are a TON of students having the same problem . . . so looks like we're not the only ones. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they let me in this semester, considering I have rearranged my life and my kid's lives for this, as I'm sure everyone else has too!!!!!

I have my fingers crossed for all of you!

Did everyone make it??? Joanne kicked me out of orientation, so I immediately called Cogent. After much begging and pleading, they finally agreed to email it to her. I was allowed back in 1/2 hour later and am now officially a nursing student! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in class!

Thank God, I watched her talking to people up front and making them leave. I felt so bad! I'm glad that you got everything worked out.

HI megan,

what books did you find most helpful to study out of? what is on the test pertaining to the science area? mostly a&p??? do i need to know alot about protons, neutrons, atoms, nucleus , etc for science/ chem part?

Hi Guys,

Congratulations all!

I'm taking the PSB test next week (April 15th) for entry into the Fall 2009 Program. I'm really nervous and just wish I knew exactly what to study. I pretty much put all my eggs in this basket.

A few question though...

-Do you think I'm taking the test too late to get into the Fall Program?

-What exactly should I focus on in the Science category?

- How do you like the program?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Suzanne

Hi,Suzanne...I am a second year student at Shadyside. First of all, no you are not taking the test too late. Friends of mine took the test in July and got into the program for September when I started. Study the books that they recommend. They give you a good overview of the science section. It is challenging, but I got a 94 on it with no science background. I love the program. It is very thorough, the instructors are awesome and they give you clinical time from the start. I think you will really enjoy it! Good luck on your test! If I can answer any other questions let me know!

Thanks for your feedback!

Everyone says the program is wonderful, so hopefully I get in!

The only question I still have is, when do most people get their acceptance letter for fall? Do you know? I only ask because if I get in, I have to move.

Thank you!

I took my test in December, then waited months till May to find out if I got in. However, my friends who took the test later found out within two weeks. If you do well on the test, chances are you'll get in. Do you live far away?

Hopefully, I would find out within a couple months.

I don't live too far away. I'm in Hopewell, which is about 10 minutes past the airport. If I get in, I'm gonna move back to the Burgh. Do you think that would count against me or???

No, it won't count against you. I have a woman in my class who drives in from Ohio. So I don't think that location has anything to do with admission. Just study and do well on the test. It really isn't too bad....the science is the hardest, and I proved that anyone can do it.....like I said, I didn't have any science in college, and still did really well on the admission test. You'll be fine.
