Passed The Psb!! Upmc Shadyside

Published

I have been freaking out for the past two months studying for the PSB. I took it on 8/29/08 for admittance to UPMC Shadyside. Well I just got my results back.....99 percentile for verbal, 99 for math, 99 for reading comp, and 98 for natural sciences!!!!:loveya:I'm shocked!!! I started hardly knowing anything about natural sciences!!! I've been out of school for a while. I'm really ecstatic. If anyone has any questions about the test, I'd be happy to answer them. Also, with my test results, are my chances pretty high for getting into Shadyside? Thanks!

Thanks for your empathy. It really does help. I just put all my eggs in this one basket and I hope I'm not let down.

I'm so upset that I didn't get to finish. I got to like... the 78th question in the science and she came in and said "Times up". I wonder if they mark those answers as wrong or what?

Ugh, I'm just really worried. Should I send my application in early, even though I didn't get my results yet? I heard a couple people talking saying that they did that?

here is the thing sweetie.... RELAX!!!! at this point whatever is going to happen is a done deal. i was the same way after i took mine and i did amazingly well. i also know a few people personally that didnt answer them all and still passed quite comfortably. it is always worse after you take it because waiting can be stressful, but just know that you did the best you could and think positively. as for the application that can wait until you get the results. but what you do want to do is the second you find out you passed.... send in the application and start working on your clearances before you know if you are accepted or not. i cant stress this enough i have stated on several threads that missing clearances are the kiss of death and they will pull you out of orientation... i have seen it happen.. good luck

Thanks for your reply! I"m trying to relax, it's tough though.

How long did it take everyone to receive their results? Did they come early or late or...?

i took my test the end of october and by the 2nd week of november had the results

Can anyone recommend the best prep books, especially for the math/science portions? Are there any books that you wish you had not bothered spending time/money on?

Thanks.

Did anyone use the Kaplan book? and for any of the books you used did you seem to do well on the practice tests? I study and feel like understand whats going on but when I take the practice tests I don't do very well and I'm really stressing out. I need some advice please

I did use the Kaplan book for Nursing Entrance Exams, as well as buying an online kit that included a book and flashcards (thousands of flashcards). The kit from online was overkill. The Kaplan book was helpful though, make sure you take practice tests whenever you possibly can. It can help you to find the areas you need to brush up on.

Also, look up online some basic math and science skills. I looked up decimals, fractions, formulas for different shapes, pre-algebra, ect. Also know some chemistry, and basic biology. I can't remember whether there were medical questions, although I am sure there were.

Good luck, I am sure you will do fine. Don't stress. It's just a stone on your path.

Hi thatpasunshine! Just got accepted into Shadyside today...read earlier on some of your posts about getting the fingerprints/background checks done as soon as possible - you seemed to know your stuff and be exceptionally helpful. Just wondering if you would be willing to give me a few tips on a few things. Sort of confused about the fingerprints/background check (all one thing or separate?, etc.) First time I've needed to do anything like this! Any help would be appreciated...an e-mail or a quick call would be awesome! Let me know...Thanks!!

I am taking the psb test in 1 month for the fall semester of 2010. I also have been out of school for a long time and forget many things. I will probably be ok on with the vocabulary and reading comp. sections, but the math and science sections are what i have to study. can anyone tell me what kind of questions are on the science section and how advanced is it. do i need to know physics or anything like that or is it easier questions such as body parts and stuff like that? I am definitely nervous because i really want to succeed and have a bright future for me and my family.
