:ancong!: You need to relax before you get your first job. You will find out what you need to learn once you start working. Until then, enjoy the fact that you passed NCLEX for a while. You deserve some celebrating!

Hi, and congratulations on passing!!! The things that you will NEED to know will depend on where you choose to work. With a good orientation, you will learn these things at your job. Most employers will enusre that you learn all you need to know before working as a nurse on your own. Congratulations again, and good luck to you!!

i was about to post a similar thread! i just found out yesterday that i passed the NCLEX RN!! (wooOohooOoo!!):lol2: but come to think about it, i have no idea what to do next!!:uhoh3:

the mail that i received only had a a piece of paper stating that "enclosed is my new registered nurse card.." and that "i will receive additional licensing information under separate cover.."

i have no clue what to do next.. any help/advice will be appreciated!!

btw, congrats for passing the NCLEX!:yeah:

Don't have any advice but WAY TO GO passing after a whole year. You must be bucko smart! I am sure you will be very successful at any new job.

Good Luck!:bowingpur

If I were you, I'd look at your fundamentals books and refresh on basic skills, which isn't much a part of NCLEX. You can always write out notecards your basic labs, or even buy a refresher pocket-type of thing for the basics.

Go over scenarios in your head, what will you do if a pt has a seizure, has a low bp, has low glucose, stops breathing-steps of CPR...think about what you'd do, then refresh where you need. Your employer should provide a good orientation, but truly, I've found I'm expected to know safe nursing practice according to my scope of practice...it will all work out, and I'm amazed at how many nurses who are experienced where I work DON'T act according to what I was taught safe practice, and DON'T know basic values, etc. New grads know more than they realize, as nursing school teaches a lot more in-depth nowadays, according to what I've been told.

don't sweat it... go apply for jobs and you will be oriented on the job. I'm sure once you start it will all come back to you. I see nurses all the time asking questions and those are nurses who have been working for awhile now.

You have your fellow nurses as well as doctors and internet to look up anything you need.
