Passed CA NCLEX 2008, just got SSN this 2012, applied for CA-RN license

Hi to all! I passed the nclex last 2008. I just got my SSN last month as an employer based immigrant. Just a week ago, I submitted my Completed Application for Licensure by Examination including a U.S. social security number as instructed by the CA BON. My school also forwarded the needed documents.

My questions are:

Has someone gone through the same thing as I am?

What happened?

Did they release your license or not?

If yes: How long did you wait for your license?

If not: What did they say? Can you send me a copy? Did they make you do further studies?

--As i have said, I am on employment based petition, so with this, my employer is waiting for my license. With this, my life is on hold. I hope to be enlightened with this. Thank you so much.

Thanks alot for the quick response francis_coup! I got here as a tourist visa and lets just say I'm almost to the point that I will be able to get my SSN. I did notice they said it was diploma OR license in the form but just wanted to know what you guys sent. I have no idea about the NEW system they are posting in their website. Hopefully its not something that could affect previous NCLEX passers like us who have yet to file again. But anyways thanks again for your reply.

Anyone else who would like to share their input on the matter would be a great help not just to me but for people (with the same situation as we are in) who will be filing in the near future. Thanks again!

Can you tell us how you are almost to the point of getting a US SSN? For most they can not get one unless they have legal authorisation to live and work in the US if not already a US citizen

Hi Silverdragon102, I'm not getting my SSN through employment, I'm getting it through my wife which is in process right now. :)

You are lucky then as many can't use Tourist visa and adjust status at the moment enabling them to apply for a US SSN

Hello! Why up to this point I haven't heard anything from the CaBRN its been 6weeks now. Is this normal that I'll wait this long? Anyways I'm nclex passer 2007, submitted all the documents including copy of my SSN and Pass letter. Oh no, Oh why :(

I mean the reply of my application;)

Hi! Don't worry i got a response from them after 6 weeks..you can always call them and you'd be able to talk to your evaluator directly. If they need you to send something else (which i doubt) they would tell you and it would be written on the letter they sent you. Godbless! :)

@Misshanibee: Thank you for the reply, anyways how will I know my evaluator if ever their is? Actually since i submitted my documents to the Board I was expecting a letter from them for any completion but I guess they don't need anything from me anymore that's why I haven't heard from them. I just hope everything is ok. Did they asked you anything to be completed before? Thanks again.:)

I think their operator would know your evaluator just by giving your name. I guess they check it on their computer. But anyway if you gave everything including a copy of your ssn and your letter of passing nclex for CA then you'd be waiting for a license card. Better check your name online, they have a service on their website where you can check if they issued you licensure. :)

Oh I see! I'll be checking out their website then. If you don't mind Misshanibee, you have your license card and already working in a hospital? How's the RN market their? I assume you're from Ca?

Yes i just moved here several months ago. I do have my license card but unfortunately i'm not working in a hospital. I'm working in a subacute/rehab facility. There's always job openings in hospitals but your chances of getting hired are pretty slim if you don't have experience and if your an external applicant. They usually hire travel nurses that have been previously working for them. But you never know you might get lucky.

Yup that's what I've heard, but at least for you, you're working in a facility that you can use as a reference for employment if you wanted to apply in a hospital. I'm from NY and the same thing here RN with experience are having the advantage in getting a position in hospital. Best of luck and God bless. Thank you for helping me out not to worry too much.

@evanchoy: i just hope you are getting your SSN legally and not one of those immigration scams. Good luck!
