Passed CA NCLEX 2008, just got SSN this 2012, applied for CA-RN license

Hi to all! I passed the nclex last 2008. I just got my SSN last month as an employer based immigrant. Just a week ago, I submitted my Completed Application for Licensure by Examination including a U.S. social security number as instructed by the CA BON. My school also forwarded the needed documents.

My questions are:

Has someone gone through the same thing as I am?

What happened?

Did they release your license or not?

If yes: How long did you wait for your license?

If not: What did they say? Can you send me a copy? Did they make you do further studies?

--As i have said, I am on employment based petition, so with this, my employer is waiting for my license. With this, my life is on hold. I hope to be enlightened with this. Thank you so much.

sharing my experience...

I passed the Ca NCLEX last March 2009. It expired last March 2012 because I do not have my SSN. I was admitted here in the US via spouse visa last April 2013. I got my SSN last May. I inquired about the requirements for my RN license. I was asked to submit a new application for licensure/examination, transcript from school and my SSN. They also asked for my school diploma and photocopy of my SSN. I complied with those requirements. Today, I saw my name in Board of Registered Nursing database.

Hi francis_coup. Im from the philippines and is it ok to ask you whAt requirements did you submit in order to get a RN License.? I also have the same case as you are. Did you provide fongerprint card or did you undergo livescan? Also did you call the CABON bfore submitting the docs or can i just mail them directly without informing them? Thanks. I hope you can help me on this.

Basically you have to start a fresh application like how you did it the first time but only this time you have to include your expired passing letter with the application for them to know that you already passed the exam before and they will find your old file # from the expired letter. Once they receive the passing letter, they would not require any additional requirements like what they are asking from the new/first time applicants now (OR/DR cases etc).

You do not need to call the CA BON just submit a fresh application with the old passing letter, copy of your ssn, submit the forms that goes to your school, and a live scan fingerprint.

I just got mine earlier this year and those are the things I submitted so you should submit your application once you get here. Good luck to you

Are there documents that I need to give to my school before they will mail it or will I just tell or request them to mail these documents under my name. Thanks again. Yes it should come from the school mailed directly to the CA BON. In the application form for licensure, you have to submit to your school the REQUEST FOR TRANSCRIPT, BREAKDOWN OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL NURSING PROGRAMS, and NURSING PROGRAM VERIFICATION. You can leave these forms to your school before you leave the country since you have to fill out the first part of REQUEST FOR TRANSCRIPT. Make sure though that you submit an application right away when you get here so that the records from the school will not arrive first instead of the application. Good luck!

Like what Evanchoy have said, have your REquest for Transcript done with your school before you leave. Once you arrive, you'll get your SSN in a few days so be ready with your pass letter, application for licensure and copy of diploma. You can have the livescan once you have your SSN. Include the livescan copy and copy of SSN with your application. Good luck with your license and job hunt.
