Pasadena City College Spring 2016

Published

Hi all!

I applied for the Pasadena City College basic RN program to start Spring 2016. The deadline closed on August 1. Since no thread had been created before feel free to join in if you applied for that term as well.

wow thats good was that overall GPA or just sciences...

Has anyone received denial letters? I haven't received anything =/

My stats: Cumulative GPA 3.25, science 3.75, and TEAS 86%.

I haven't heard anything back from PCC. My stats are Cum 3.10, science 4.0, full points for the TEAS since I have a bachelor. Honestly I think we both have competitive profiles, I'm surprised we haven't heard anything not even as alternates. Oftentimes the decisions are sent out in waves, mabe we will receive good news in the upcoming days.

^ The deadline to submit Intent to Accept/Decline Form is due today at 3 pm. The email from the nursing department states they contact alternates after forms are submitted, so I think alternates should be hearing from PCC within the next few days, especially because new cohort orientation is on Friday, Nov 6!

@adamastor I agree but I guess that's how it works with a lottery system. Luckily I applied elsewhere that give admission based on your stats and hopefully you did also.

I just got an email saying I'm an alternate. The email doesn't say where I am on their alternate list. I wish I knew how close I am to being accepted =\

Isn't the selection based on a point system?

Is it? It would make sense since they have a point system, but I heard they put qualified applicants into a lottery and draw from that. I don't know if it's different this year.

I know it used to be a random lottery but this term they had introduced the multi-criteria point system now in use at most CC around LA. I tried looking for the exact selection procedure on the website but it doesn't say. I was under the impression that the selection would be solely based on the point scale but I might be wrong, it might just be a way to select a pool of applicant with the final decision being nailed down through a lottery.

I couldn't find their exact selection process either. Were you chosen as an alternate?

I haven't heard anything from pcc. I believe you are right, the point system is just used to select a pool of applicants from which the accepted candidates are randomly drawed, and good grades will only help so much. At this point I'm no longer expecting a positive reply and focus my attention on other schools.

If you don't get in this semester there are other options. I didn't get into BSN programs I applied to last year, but I got into an ADN program this semester at another school. PCC was my backup luckily. Good luck to you.

Hello everyone,

I myself was notified that I am an alternate. Anyone know how many people they give alternative slots to? And on the chance that I am still able to get into the program would anyone mind sharing some of the info discussed at the orientation. Thanks.

TEAS: Didn't have to take because of my bachelor's degree

Science GPA: 3.0

Cumulative GPA: 2.7

Congrats to all that have gotten in so far!! =)
