  1. Hello all, I'm at WCU and will take the university predictor test. for those of you who took the 2 tests, how does the difficulty compare between the 2?
  2. Hello all, I am ADN educated RN. I am currently enrolled in a NP Program. Since my bachelor degree is non-nursing major I need to take some classes before taking the core NP courses. The last BSN-type class I need to take is the community health experience. Those "clinicals" usually take place at adult daycare centers. However, due to the covid pandemic, the adult daycare center I was placed at hasn't been receiving patients for well over a year. To meet the board requirement I still need to commute there once a week. Eventhough, the center doesn't currently receive participants, it prepares and delivers lunches to the elderlies and the drivers check on them. I'm asked to pack lunches as fast as I can for a good hour, and when I'm done with that, I'm asked to type progress notes for each participant for a good 5 hours each time I go there. Those tasks are extremely dry, tedious, boring and unrelated to the class I'm taking. To make matters worse, the staff puts friendly pressure on me each time to complete work faster. I'm a RN, I have to take time off work to be able to attend those "clinicals", and still charged a large tuition fee. I feel like I'm just there to do free labour and being demanded around. What do you think? Thank for the input.
  3. Hello all, I will be entering nursing school's last semester in the fall. There is this girl in my class I am somehow interested in and I have all the reasons to believe she likes me back. I would have initiated things already if it weren't for the fear it could interfere with school. My class has nearly 40 students, and we're about 8 in each clinical group. If things turn sour, it can get pretty awkward as we all know and there isn't much room to avoid the other person. Nonetheless, I haven't dated in a while, I'm in my early thirties already and so is this girl. School is extremely important, but at this point dating is also. I was thinking that delaying things until towards the end of this upcoming last semester would be a reasonable compromise. What do you think? Thank you all for your input!
  4. I haven't heard anything from pcc. I believe you are right, the point system is just used to select a pool of applicants from which the accepted candidates are randomly drawed, and good grades will only help so much. At this point I'm no longer expecting a positive reply and focus my attention on other schools.
  5. I know it used to be a random lottery but this term they had introduced the multi-criteria point system now in use at most CC around LA. I tried looking for the exact selection procedure on the website but it doesn't say. I was under the impression that the selection would be solely based on the point scale but I might be wrong, it might just be a way to select a pool of applicant with the final decision being nailed down through a lottery.
  6. Isn't the selection based on a point system?
  7. I haven't heard anything back from PCC. My stats are Cum 3.10, science 4.0, full points for the TEAS since I have a bachelor. Honestly I think we both have competitive profiles, I'm surprised we haven't heard anything not even as alternates. Oftentimes the decisions are sent out in waves, mabe we will receive good news in the upcoming days.
  8. No replies, I take it they haven't made any decision yet
  9. The health science department said they were "hoping" to send out acceptation mails by the end of the week. We will see, fingers crossed!
  10. Hi all! I applied for the Pasadena City College basic RN program to start Spring 2016. The deadline closed on August 1. Since no thread had been created before feel free to join in if you applied for that term as well.
  11. To rate the ELM objectively is difficult, I guess the only way to do it would be to look at NCLEX pass rate over the pass few years. It averages the high 80% which isn't bad but isn;t great neither, behind many community colleges. I believe this defines the school really well, it's "ok", "so-so", "average". The teacher are fine, some more than others, same applies to clinicals. Most of the learning is done through self-teaching which is the way to really learn I guess. Knowledge can't be spoon fed. The only problem is that I believe you end up paying big money when you could have the same thing or better for much less money. It's paying $50k for a golf GTI when you can get a big shiny new Mercedes for $10k, that's a no-brainer. Many students chose to not do the MSN portion at Azusa, that says a lot. I myself opted to transfer to a public school. I second what was said about working full-time while in this program, it is impossible not even part-time. It gets very intense, very crazy. There won't be much time to do anything else aside from studying, preparing for clinicals etc. Also, religion IS present during the program eg praying in the classroom, useless courses on spiritual care that the university charges thousands $ for. It might work for some but not for others.
  12. @ienurse How do I know? I attended APU. I remember that all or nearly all qualified applicants were offered admission. The ELM program at APU doesn't receive a huge amount of applicants unlike CC or public universities. The reason behind this is that Azusa is a private school, and while there even more expensive schools, it is still much more expensive than a publicly funded program and money makes sense to a lot of people. Most students have to apply for financial aid and that is done through them. Fafsa will loan you enough money to afford tuition. To be financially viable the school has to fill each cohort, and to ensure this will accept nearly anyone as long as they meet the basic requirements. They even engage in questionable behaviors to ensure prospective students choose APU. I remember the program director saying that ADN prepared nurses wouldn't be able to find jobs, and that the school NCLEX passing rate was 100% which conflicts with what the CAlifornia BRN's website says... This being said the school is legit. I bet (and hope for you if this is what you want) everyone on this thread will get in, mark my words.
  13. Hello guys, Just to give you the heads up about the way APU admissions work, for those who wonder, it depends mainly on 2 factors: 1/ Have you completed all your pre-requisite course with at least a couple of A's? 2/ Will you be able to pay for tuition with either financial aid or personal funds? If you can meet these 2 requirements, specially #2, then most likely than not you will get in.
  14. OP, as far as your potential schools are concerned I am familiar with them since I live in Socal. Mt St Mary is Catholic and even though the school has a religious affiliation Catholic nowadays keeps religion apart from the academics, specially in scientific field such as nursing. The Baptist University is already more religious, and less secular. Now when it comes to Azusa it is known for being strictly evangelical and not so open-minded. for instance they have a dry (no booze) campus policy. I heard in-class prayer is mandatory there, and that challenging the evolution theory publicly on religious grounds isn't unheard of there. They recently expelled a theology professor because he turned out to be trans-gender, so as you can see that school is not so LGBT friendly. If you decide to apply there you might be fine but you might also encounter some narrow-minded bigots.
  15. My gpa is 4.0 both science and GE. However I haven't taken the TEAS yet. Has anyone received an invitation to take the test yet? Do you know if the draw is completely random or if it is weighted?
