Has anyone recieved an acceptance letter from Pasadena yet. They said it would be 10 weeks after the application period closed. Well it's closed and it's been 10 weeks. Whats the word???
Not to discourage anyone, but two people at my job (E.R) already got their acceptance email from PCC. Neither one of them have high GPA's. The only one thing in common is their A in English. I've been trying for four semesters and no luck either. I have been working on my pre-reqs' for almost 10years. I'm super frustrated with the darn criteria they used to make their selection. I have an "A"in both physiology a and b and a "B" in micro and english. I'm ready to give up this whole nursing thing;/
There is no such thing as "wait list" at PCC, only an alternative list. This is in case anyone who were accepted decides not to go to PCC, then those spots are filled with the alternatives.
@pocoloco; there is a possibility that the length of time that it took you to meet prereqs may have decreased your chances. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that all science courses should be taken within 4 years or else you need to retake them and retaking them could also decrease your chances.
Also, volunteering does not increase your chances but your grades will. The majority of the students in my class (but not all) were A students...except for the guys. Since there are less guys in the program, there is less competition for grades and I'm pretty sure they accept a certain percentage of guys.
One of the reasons that it takes so long: information on applications need to be verified and as much as 1/3 of applicants have not met the 4 most important prereqs: English1c, Anatomy, Physio, Micro
Staff: yes, there is limited staff to handle the hundreds of applications and every phone call you guys make into the office asking about your acceptance takes time away from the girl who is working on it >>>and she gets really annoyed
But for anyone who wants to be a nurse...don't give up! Just apply at other schools. PCC is very popular because it has such a good reputation however, some of us wonder why....
Thanks for the info and insight more to learn...I will continue to wait patiently, and hopefully I hear something this week. I would LOVE to attend PCC if accepted. If I am not, I am still on the waitlist for Santa Monica College's nursing program. Only downfall is the wait, but I would only be waiting 2 semesters more. I got on their waiting list early this year.

when did u apply to santa monica? i applied last october
Same story for me Andrew...got my email yesterday. It's a big bummer. I guess I'll be attending Santa Monica's RN program as soon as it's my turn for enrollment...estimated 2-3 semester wait. But at least I have a guaranteed seat. Please don't give up on your dreams to be an RN. Strive to do what you love! Santa monica's requirements are reasonable and pretty cut and dry...and if you qualify you are automatically on the waitlist. Only downfall is the wait obviously. You should apply to santa monica...they accept official applications twice a year, in october and in march. It's a beautiful school and the staff so far seems really on top of their stuff.... good luck everyone. =]
ahh! im sorry to hear that you guys didn't get in. i havent recieved any notifications yet. ppl have already gotten acceptance and rejections notifications! ugh, hopefully by tomorrow there is something, either i got in or not i need to know now so i can move on with with my life. lol
