Has anyone recieved an acceptance letter from Pasadena yet. They said it would be 10 weeks after the application period closed. Well it's closed and it's been 10 weeks. Whats the word???
I love reading everyone's posts. Glad to see that everyone else out there is as spastic as myself about making the right decisions, etc. I moved here from AZ last year and still in the pre-req stages. At the rate I'm going, It will be another year or so before I can even apply but as I can see, it is okay as good grades seems to be KEY for PCC or any other program for that matter. Good luck to all and keep going for your dreams!
Hi all,
It's been great reading all of your posts! Getting a lot of info. I have a question for anyone who may know the answer. I've applied to start the PCC RN program in the spring (and won't hear if I got in for a few weeks more). The problem is a concert band that I perform with is planning on doing a week long concert trip to China in March.
Have any of you heard about the intensity of the 1st semester? Is missing a week an insane idea? I don't think I've ever missed a day of college work in my life so I know I'm nuts to be considering it now. I was just hoping maybe one of you had some insight on how the classes are planned and if instructors are willing for nursing students to miss a few days.
Thanks!
vnngo, I just sent you a private message. See if you can access it by going to your account at the top of the page in the yellow bar. If you can contact me, I can give important info for first week of school. Good Luck!

Hi vannery,
Congratulations! Sure you can private message me and I will give you some info.

The teachers really frown upon taking time off school although you are allowed to miss a few days. But it really depends on when you would miss because certain days are mandatory. Also, keep in mind that if you take off when you are not sick, what happens if you really do get sick? There are no make-ups for info and if you miss an exam, you may still get to take it if you have a good excuse but you will take a harder version of the test and you must make arrangements prior to the original test date.
I found that while I was in nursing school, that had to be my number one priority if I expected to pass. Good Luck.

Once you are accepted in the ladder program, there is a class you take to prepare you before you start the 3rd & 4th semester. Many students told me that the class was lacking in important info that left them lost in 3rd semester but if you can get a mentor or buddy up with students who took 1st & 2nd (and ask for help), you'll do fine. The most important thing you can do is study for the dosage calculation exam that you will have on the first day of school. You must pass with a 90% (you'll get 2 attempts, and if you don't pass...you get kicked out)
Hi more to learn. I can't seem to send a private message to you but here is my email address: [email protected]
Hope to hear from you soon! And thank you :)
Hi More to learn-
I noticed you are very knowledgeable about the PCC RN program. Do you happen to know if alternates have a good chance of getting in or not? I just received an email today saying I am an alternate, but no information on how many alternates are on the list to select from. Did you happen to know anyone who was an alternate originally?
Thanks for you help!
Jenelle
