U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi, I need some help from my fellow posters. I'm in my last year of nursing school in Baton Rouge. Do you all have any tips or advice for places looking for part time student workers?

don't know what kind of job you are looking for

check the nursing homes if you can work prn thry are always looking for part time help or someone who can come in on short notice

hi serenity i know that baton rouge general hire part-time techs prn.I haven't spoke with you in a while how is school going, and i did not get into brcc's nursing program i was crushed so i am applying other places, enough about me, are you guys in school this summer.

No, we didn't have to attend summer school. Everything is great and I'm scheduled to graduate in May 2009:yeah:. Don't give up. I didn't get into my first choice (OLOL accelerated program-Tulane). BRCC may not be the best place for you or it just may not be your time. Trust me you'll get accepted into the best school for you.

Shandolyn???

It's Tonya...you ready? Let's do this!!! :nurse:

Yeah, it's me but how did you know. I'm so ready to graduate and I know every one who has made it this far will succeed!!!!!:yeah:

I figured it was you by little details you have posted on the boards...I remember you talking about applying to OLOL and that you had went to Nichols:rolleyes:

Now if only I could remember all the drugs we learned this past semster LOL

Enjoy your last week off!

Have you heard any news for us?? I see we have 3 new teachers and we are at the other campus

No, I haven't heard anything. Do you know anyone in our class working at North Oaks in Hammond?

Myself, Danielle, and our new student the LPN (Kristel)..me and Kristel work on Peds and Danielle works L&D.

Is that one of the places you are looking into working at?

Just a little info..Nurse Tech's only have to work 1 shift per payperiod (every 2 weeks); you can work more if you wish. Pay is $11/hr. In our dept (Maternal-child) our boss allows techs to schedule partial shifts 4,6,8,hr etc..not sure if that is hospital wide or just our dept.

N.O. has a loan buyback program $5000 for a 1 year fulltime contract (max is 2 yr contract).

Starting pay for our RN's are 21.50 for Benefits and 27.5 for nonbenefit. If you tech during school and decide to take benefits you are given credit for your tech hours which = higher starting pay. I don't remember the exact numbers but x hrs= 1% increase, x hrs = 2% increase, etc....I do know that I will qualify for the max which is 5%..so I would start at 22.58. Just another incentive for loyalty to the company. You only get this credit if you take benefits...non benefit pay stays the same.

Hope this info is helpful!

oh I forgot to tell you shift diff's

for NT 0.30 for evening/nights and 0.50 for weekends

for Rn $3 evening, $4 night, $5 weekends

evenings 3-11pm

nights 11p-7a

Yeah, I've interviewed over there. I think I may get the position on the Medicine 2 floor. I wonder if I get the position could I transfer to another floor later if my interest change?

if you are PRN you can transfer at any time. Part time and full time have to wait 6 months then transfer.

I use to work on Medicine as a secretary before going back to school. I like it over there. Most of the people have moved on...either FAN nurse, supervisor, or mgmt. They say it is the floor to start on.
