Hi I have to take Pharm in the fall and wanted to ask for advice on which professor you would recommend. I think there is Ames at Brookhaven and Stephenson at Mountainview. Anybody have experience with either? I would really appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Mara
Hey JLA, I kind of figured that the higher the HESI the better. Since we get the bulk of the points there. I bought the study guide and I plan to practice some reading comprehension(my weakness) on-line. Wish me luck...and the advice I'm looking for is for once you get into the program any tips???
Once you get into the program I would plan to either work very little or not at all. If you are getting financial aid, be sure to plan way ahead and get the money for the semester you think you will be starting even if you don't get in....because if you get in and don't have the money you will be in a really tough spot because it takes a long time to get the money. It's a huge hassle.
For the lecture classes be sure to do practice NCLEX questions because they really do help. Also study, study, study. This was the biggest adjustment for me because I have never been a big studier.
It will take up a lot of your time. I can't tell you how many times I spent the last weekend before a test studying for like 10 hours a day. More for med/surg though rather than nursing fundamentals.
I really enjoy it though! It is kind of scary at first, but I have a lot of fun.
Thanks! I know about the studying for hours the weekend before an exam because that is what I've been doing for Patho, it's been crazy!!! But I kind of figured, it's just the beginning and it's just going to get harder from here. Yeah I plan on either working part-time or none at all, depending. Thanks for your advice and keep up the hard work!! :rcgtku:
They changed their point system up a bit. SOme supporting classes are worth 2 pts while others are only 1 pt. I plan to apply for the spring and see what happens. Have you already take your HESI?? I plan on taking it around the 2nd week in Sept. I need to go resgister for it so I have a seat!!!!!!!!! I doubt I get in for the spring but those 3 pts will help when I reapply for the fall.
Hey DallasMonty, I just am just finishing up patho at Mountainview, it almost "killed me", J.K. but still it was a handful!!! I also just finished taking End of Life with Routh. It was "interesting" and "intense", I mean it's a class about death and dying...:smilecoffeeIlovecof looking forward to seeing you in class.
That means we were in the same End of Life Issues class. That class actually helped me with the subject of death & I honestly didn't think it would.
I took Pharm with Mrs. Ames and it was a handful. I think the first test was like 12 chapters? I honestly have never read that much for a class before. -lol- I took that along with Patho at MVC. My semester was pretty full, but I made it out of there with a A in Patho & a B in Pharm. If I can do it trust me you'll be fine!
I'll be applying for the Spring as well. WHYYYYY did they bring back interviews?! Good luck guys!

Hey guys :typing
I also had Routh for End of Life this Summer-small world! Lonnnggg class periods...
I also just finished pharmacology, and took an online class through El Centro and it was great-all tests including final-online:up:
Dosage is all I need, and it's already full. Thanks financial aid for taking your sweet a time letting me know when I could register!
So..I have a 3.0 on pre-req's, and all classes now except Dosage. My speech class was a waste of time now that they don't count it anymore, but on the bright side, I'm hearing we can use our Spanish for medical that was required up until now in place of the new humanities req.
I took the HESI last app. period, but only made an 83%(damn a&p and math), so I guess I have 11 for support + 3 for pre-req gpa pts + 8 for my HESI, and 3 for applying last app. period??? Totaling 25? UGGGHHH! Looks like I'm re-taking the HESI, God help me!!!!! Anyone know what people were getting accepted with point wise last app. period??? Good Luck to all of you!
Hey Connie I know, this was my first time taking such a long course and Patho was just as long, but it wasn't that bad they went by pretty quick. I am trying to prepare to take the HESI in Sept also. I 've been practicing on my math and I didn't realize how I had forgotten the simple things. I know of a guy that got accepted and he had 29 points last time. I hear it's between 27-35. I'm going to go ahead and submit my app this term just so I can go ahead and get my 3 pts. I know I also took Speech (not my favorite subject) and to find out i don't need it ! I am taking Pharm & Dosages this Fall. Good Luck to you on retaking the HESI! :wink2:
I'm taking the HESI on Sept 8th. I'm pretty nervous about it. I took the NET earlier this month and it wasn't too bad once I used the study guide. Is anyone using another study book besides the study guide?? I need to go to the library and copy it since the bookstore wants $35 for it!!!!!! How many people are they taking total at BrookHaven??? I'm very nervous about the interview and not sure how much it weighs on the pts system. Does anyone know how many points is required to get a interview?? How is Ames for pharm and McLelland for patho as teachers?? If anyone wants to get a study group started let me know.
Hey Princess I came across this site that is a great tool to use for the HESI. I've been using it to prepare for the HESI this Sept. I'm so thankful I came across it and hope it can help you out as well. It has about 200 pages. Hey good luck! :smilecoffeeIlovecof

I had ordered a pretty good study guide with online tests you could take online last time for about $30. The one at BHC library isn't that good, but gives you a general idea of what to study atleast. If I find the link, I'll let forward it to you guys:wink2: Also, I took Pharmacology online through ECC, but it's the same one that is acceptable at BHC for the nursing program. My instructor was S. Crow-Todd, and she was great.
