Hi all, I wanted to start a thread for those who have applied to the Parkland new grad residencies starting in January/February 2016. So far they have posted positions for L&D, NICU, ER, and med-surg. Feel free to share any progress on interviews, ask questions, etc.
To those who have interviewed for L&D: At what point do you think it is okay to email to check on the status of your application? I interviewed last Monday and haven't heard anything. I have another job offer for med surg and I just would like to know who I am going to move forward with. L&D is where I want to be but this is taking so long! Any suggestions? Is it too soon to email the recruiter? Thanks!
They contacted me today for an interview for L&D but I turned it down because I have already accepted a labor and delivery job at another hospital that I am really happy and excited about. I can't believe that they waited this long to contact me. It's too bad, I would have liked to work there, but they were too late.
Do you guys mind posting your credentials/experience? Do you guys have specifics on Parkland's residency? There is plenty of information on their website but I'm talking inside info. I graduate from an ADN program in Houston May 2016 & plan to start on my BSN at UTA in 2017. I have a 3.5 GPA but I'm afraid that's all the good I have. I don't have any work experience in a hospital and not many extra curricular activities. I plan on getting ACLS during spring break so hopefully that adds some goodness to my resume. I'm interested in critical care and cardiology but I'm willing to get my foot in the door on any unit.

I think most hospitals here prefer BSN and you probably have a leg up if you've been a tech somewhere, but I've had a couple of people in my cohort get offers from Parkland SICU and ER with no experience. I don't have experience and my previous degree is in engineering. The only 'inside' info I have is that Parkland requires a 3-year commitment. Some people are put off by this but I don't mind. I'm graduating in 7 days with a BSN, 3.84 GPA, and no hospital work experience whatsoever.
