Which job should I take?
The part time job offers benefits, PTO, 401k...all of that. I have benefits through my husband's job so I won't be using them. Per Diem job only offers the 401k. That is a good point about skills! Maybe I shouldn't worry as much about that. I think my biggest hurdle for me is that my family and I are so used to me working per diem that it's hard to swallow thinking about losing that flexibility. Thanks for your insight!

Which job should I take?
I moved to a new part of the country and have two job offers and am torn between which one to accept. If anyone has any advice or insight, I'd love to hear it. Both jobs are about 20 minutes from where I live. I have experience in both of these areas and enjoy both for different reasons. Job #1- part time nights, newborn nursery at small community hospital. I have small children and would prefer to only work one night a week but I could make part time work, I think. This hospital doesn't have a great reputation in general and the pay is $10/hour less than my other offer. But it is a small, tight knit unit from what I can tell, and the manager seems very supportive. OB/nb nursery is my favorite specialty and I generally find it enjoyable and not stressful. Job #2- Observation/short stay unit, large hospital system with a good reputation. Per diem nights. Like I said, pay is better. Pros are I could make my own schedule and have more flexibility working per diem. Also, I sometimes worry I am losing my skills by only focusing on OB, so this would help with that. But it also sounds more stressful. What would you do???

No clue what to do! New job, pregnant, etc.
I am currently in my 4th month of a NICU internship. This was my dream job! My bubble started to burst on the very first day, when several nurses told me that they were all miserable there and that I'm likely going to want to go back to my first career. The morale on the unit is horrible and the staff is not very friendly or helpful. It feels like there's a black cloud hanging over the whole unit. I'm stuck on night shift (there is a waiting list to do to days and I'm not super close to the top) which I absolutely hate and find terribly depressing, especially since no one really talks to each other all night. I feel like maybe I'd be happier on a med surg floor where people are nice to each other! The kicker is that I recently found out that I am expecting, which was a total accident. I already have two little ones at home. So here are my options: stick it out and try to ignore the ugliness and feeling like crap all the time until I've put in my one year which will be right around the time maternity leave ends, possibly try to find something PRN somewhere ASAP (how much experience does this usually take?), or accept a PRN offer to do pedi private duty home health that I've already received. I don't need to make a lot of money and I have benefits through my husband's job. My husband has no clue what to tell me and I'm afraid to talk to anyone at work. I need some words of wisdom!

Which internship to take?
Thanks for your input, everyone. I just accepted the NICU job!

Which internship to take?
I am so grateful to be in the position I am, but I have to make a very hard decision between three new grad internships. I really am torn and don't know what to do so I thought maybe some of you might have some advice! JOB #1: -This is a general women's services floor. They take overflow from mother/baby and antepartum as well as women recovering from gyn surgery. They also take med surg overflow (women only). Small staff and limited resources as the charge nurse has a full patient load and there is no secretary. Night shift, commute would be about 30 minutes. Hospital system has a great reputation. I'm leaning towards turning down this one. JOB #2: -Newborn nursery, night shift. Very busy women's services department in a lower income part of town. The babies generally room with their mothers, but there are separate mother and baby nurses. Commute is 30 minutes. Hospital system has a so-so reputation in the community. JOB #3: -63 bed level III NICU. Not sure if it will be day or night shift. Commute would be about 20-25 minutes. Excellent hospital system with a national reputation. My career goal has been to work in newborn nursery or NICU, never expected to have to choose between the two. What would you do??

Dallas/Fort Worth Graduate Nurse Residency Programs Winter 2016
Here's my update: didn't get the OR position at Methodist which was fine with me because I decided I wasn't going to take it anyway due to the call requirements. Interviewed at THR Arlington last week with women's services, and then with the Observation Unit at Methodist this week. Received offers from my last two interviews, and am going to take the position in women's services with THR. Never heard a peep from Baylor, Parkland (other than the emails) or UTSW (other than a phone call asking me which unit of women's services I wanted to be considered for.) I have a BSN, GPA 3.7, volunteered at Cook's (which is when I realized that I did NOT want to do peds), no tech experience, previous career in a very customer service-oriented profession. I was honestly surprised how crazy competitive these internships are. Good luck everyone!!!!

Methodist Dallas 2016 Internships
I never got called for L&D or Postpartum at Methodist which made me sad, but I did interview for the OR (didn't get it but wasn't going to take it anyway once I heard about the call requirements) and the Observation Unit, which I received a job offer for. However, I will be working on a combo postpartum/gyn unit for a THR hospital. Good luck everyone! I had clinicals at Methodist and really liked it there.

My interview was for the OR. I have been told by others who have gone through the process before that women's usually interviews last. I was told that med surg and critcal care gets first pick. We shall see, I guess!
