Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) BSN 2017-2018

Published

Hi everyone! This is my first post after lurking and reading posts for over a year. My reason for posting now is because I haven't seen anything here about the current application cycle for Pacific Lutheran University's BSN program. It's located in Tacoma, WA!

My application was received by PLU on the very last day of 2016, and they sent me an email 5 days later saying they needed one more LOR and formal admission to the university. I checked in with my instructor again, and she sent the LOR very shortly after. I also got a letter from admissions saying I was admitted with a great academic scholarship just a bit smaller than the Provost. Yay!!

As of right now, I have a 3.93 cumulative GPA, 3.96 college level GPA and 3.975 in the pre-reqs. I'm also a CNA with over 3 years of experience in long-term care. I'm almost done with a pre-nursing direct transfer agreement at Green River: currently taking AP 2, Chem& 121 and two humanities/fine arts electives. In a couple weeks, I'll be registering for Microbiology, Chem&131 and two more electives for Spring quarter to finish up the degree. I guess in the meantime, I'll prepare for the long wait and keep up on my grades.

Has anyone here applied for the 2017-2018 cohort? Feel free to reach out! :)

I forgot to add ~ I do have my DTA and EMT credentials.

Thanks for the info bsnhopefulmj!

Hi guys, I also applied for PLU Nursing program this Fall/Spring. I got 3.68 for my pre/co-req GPA and 3.74 for my cumulative GPA. I'm freaking out because I haven't heard anything from PLU yet except an email told me to update my transcript. I understand that I won't receive a letter anytime soon because I just submitted my application a few days before the deadline, but it still terrifies me. I don't know if my grades are enough for me to be selected because they're just okay :( Have you guys heard anything from PLU yet? Please give me some hope to survive through this time.

Hi ivybui,

The same thing happened to me until yesterday. No emails, calls, nada, the letter just showed up in the mail! From what I can see, many people are still waiting. It sounds like they trickle out a handful each month but a lot go out in June, and they *said* average GPA is 3.6 cumul., 3.7 pre-req. It's also just an average and your grades are not bad! I think you have a chance, and anyway, it's about more than just numbers. There'd still be a chance even if you are waitlisted. Keep your head up and stay positive! :)

Thank you so much! May I know when you submitted your application? Or any info you can share?

Not a problem! I submitted my app toward the end of Dec and they received it on the 31st according to my tracking number, haha (I tend to be a bit diligent about things). I got an email less than week later saying they still needed one LOR, which my prof sent maybe a week after that. So it was complete early-mid Jan. As I said before, my pre/co-req GPA is 3.9 and cumulative 3.91, but I got a 3.6 in AP2, so I don't think it's entirely based on numbers. My research writing prof coached me on the essays last fall and my LORs were from a science prof and a nurse, so I think that helped a lot.

Let's see...Oh, I also only got 3 papers in my envelope. I thought it was going to be 4 from what I read, so I freaked out since the envelope wasn't as thick as I imagined, but it all worked out. :)

I'll be more than happy to answer any other questions, just let me know

Also waiting to hear back from PLU. My GPA is not as compensative, Cumulative is 3.4 and pre-req is 3.6. Still hopeful though :) Good luck everyone!

Hi bsnhopefulmj,

Sorry for the late reply, my friend applied back in December I think and I believe she was accepted into the fall cohort. I saw your other post that you were accepted, congratulations! And the best of luck to you in the program and in the future.

pnw.mercedee:

Sorry it took a minute to get back to you, but best wishes! June is only a few weeks away if it comes down to it. :)

NC_24,

No problem at all. Thanks for the response and the well wishes! I found out that one of my current classmates was also accepted into Fall as well, and another is still waiting to hear back. Best of luck to you too! :)

For any future PLU applicants.

PLU will most likely send out letters to those accepted. For me, I completed the application process in Oct ish. I waited and waited until nearly the end of January until I received a response. I was notified with initially a phone call from the university which just so happened to correspond with receiving a physical letter & e-mail of acceptance on the same day. PLU also does rolling acceptance from January through June. Folks that are placed on the waiting list shouldn't give up hope because there have been many times those accepted are unable to accept the offer for numerous reasons. I recall one cohort member that was accepted the day prior to our first class beginning.

@pnu_mercedee

I get that! I'm freaking out bc I have a 3.71 in all prereqs but only a 3.3 in cumalitive bc of one stupid class. Lol but I also have a smaller transcript bc I took 10 years off of school and so all those credits are expired. So I only have AP241,242 CHEM 121 and 131 and im currently enrolled in Psych and Micro. My one bad grade is is chem 121 though so not being a prerequisite I'm praying it doesn't affect me too badly bc I got a 4.0 in 131, the class they care about. So idk we will see but I'm really ready to hear something!!
