Petition to save Overtime Pay
President Bush is about to finalize changes in the laws governing overtime pay that could take away overtime pay from at least 8 million people --- RNs and LPNs included. His changes will cut paychecks for families, erode the 40-hour workweek and encourage our employers to increase the use of mandatory overtime when they no longer have to pay for it.

Dont vote for the idiot next year.
He is and has been in office for only one thing and that is to further the interests of his big business buddies, nothing new here.
Again, I totally agree.
I put up DEAN for president signs in my yard last night. On Wed, I went to a Dean supporters meeting and spoke about the phony nursing shortage. I told the people there what is really going on- that nurses want to work in hospitals but have been driven away by dangerous working conditions. I've also been writing to reporters regarding the issue and have had good response.
I'm surprised to find myself becoming an activist, for two things- getting a dem back in The White House and improving working conditions for nurses.

If I dont get overtime pay then I dont do overtime
Does this really surprise you about little Georgie Bushie.
Just Impeach him and be done with it
I didn't vote for him, either.
I'm already working 50 hours a week for nothing, and I was asked to "volunteer" to work a half day yesterday. I refused.
It'll probably be noted on my upcoming performance evaluation that I'm not a "team player", but I don't give a flying damn. Why in the hell should I want to be one, when we were given Chick-Fil-A sandwiches for Christmas, and our CEO has just received a cool $35 Million, during a recent merger??

Hello;
I'm a new member and a newbie to posting so do excuse me if my comments seem a little out of place.
Here in the UK there is no concept of compulsory overtime for nurses anywhere in the NHS. Individual units and wards(=floors) normally arrange their own agency nurse bookings;sometimes nurses offer to do a particular shift as either agency or o/t but either way it's always paid. Another thing-it's always optional-there may well be some emotional blackmail to do a shift but that's another issue.

(Although I got a call today offering me overtime plus 15.00/hr to work tonight. But what happens when/if the nursing shortage ends. I'm very upset about this don't get me wrong, but right now I need to get over my smug self that nursing is going to be immune, simply because of the shortage at the moment. Just being honest with myself and telling on myself here. Don't flame me please.:chair: )
