Our nursing class grading scale is WAY easy...

I was just reading through the C=RN thread (very interesting!). A lot of people mentioned the grading scale at their school, and I just found out that this semester they changed the grading scale for the nursing classes at my school:

A= 89.5 - 100

B= 79.5 - 89.49

C= 75 - 79.49

Is that insane or what? In a way it's nice, but I think that I won't feel as much of a sense of accomplishment if I do get a low A, because I will know that it's not *really* an A.

But then part of me realizes I should drop the stupid pride and take what I can get, because the next two years are going to be HARD.

My grading scale is the exact same way. They set the bar higher this year because they said that students who make 70's and grades like that tend to not do so hot on the NCLEX.

You know I heard someone else say that because in the program I'm in anything below a 75 is failing. Two professors were talking about it and said that they didn't feel the need to raise the passing grade to 80 or more b/c our school has a 95% pass rate every year on the NCLEX. The administration at the school should be the one's raising the bar. Passing the NCLEX doesn't just depend on the student's ability it's also about what and how they were taught in school!!!

Our school has a 95-98% pass rate for the NCLEX. I'm not sure what the rationale was behind changing the grading scale.

Here is mine!

A = 93-100%

A- = 90-92%

B+ = 87-89%

B = 83-86%

B- = 80-82%

C+ = 77-79%

C = 73-76%

72% and below is failing

Mine is the traditional 10 point scale.

90-100 = A

80-89 = B

70-79 = C

Anything below a C is failing. But we do round up. So a 69.5 is passing.

A = 93-100%

A- = 91-92%

B+ = 89-90%

B = 85-88%

B- = 83-84%

C+ = 81-82%

C = 77-80% PASSING

That's my school's scale; copied it from their website. Not too easy and not too hard, I suppose. :)

OMG a 70 is a C at some schools and they round. I've never heard of such a thing. That would be so awesome I am green with envy. I got a 92.7% last semesterfor my final grade and that was a B.

My school's scale is:

A= 93%-100%

B=86%-92%

C=77%-85%

Anything below 77% and your out.No rounding period but we do have 100% pass rate for NCLEX. It was made very clear they have and intend to keep the 100% pass rate!!!CRB613

I have to have an 80% to pass. bottom A is a 94 %.

This I wonder, if the BON dictates what our programs are like, then why arent all the grading scales alike.

Many think it is strict, but I feel it makes me study harder to learn to material. passing though the program wont get me a license, passing the NCLEX will.

My school is insane, anything below 80 is a D and you are out of the program, and their no return policy is 3 years!

94-100 A

84-93 B

80-84 C

Sometimes people make things harder than they need to be! Wish me luck!

ours is:

a 94-100

b 86-93

c 78-85

even though i am in an adn program, our grading scale is the same as above. if we get a c one semester, we can't get a c the next or we are automatically out. also, if we fail our drug calc tests, scheduled or surprise we are also out. being my first year it makes me way nervous

i live in florida and my school said that if you get kicked out of any nursing program here then you can't go anywhere else ever again in the state of florida. :stone

we have the same policy. if you get one c- or below then all your courses are dropped for the next semester and you have to take that one class, all by it's self, with the group of students who stated a semester behind you (at our school they have both fall and spring entrance). so your entire graduating class changes.

In our school, failure is anything below an 80%!!

Our school had a 98-99% pass rate on NCLEX until this year. 20 out of 53 DID NOT pass!!!

The NCLEX has changed and it is MUCH harder than it was. I am now TERRIFIED that I won't pass in May!!

Good luck everybody!!
