Paper done.......Ready for week 2?????

While I check these boards almost daily, I usually don't post anything. However, I just HAD to comment on this. Some TAs want the date things were 'Retrieved from'. Some tell you it's no longer required. Same with having the name of the university on the cover page, line spacing of references, etc. ***** I wish each instructor would give us a sample APA paper, so we could have a clue what they want. Or better yet, they could just get a copy of the most current APA Style Guide and figure it out for themselves. Unfortunately, this has happened in most of my classes. Soooo frustrating! Okay. Enough complaining- must finish group participation...

All 3 classes I have take did send a sample copy of a paper and referenced the Purdue Owl website....I prefer having a book in front of me. I also have a link to formatting a paper per APA on youtube that the Transitions TA sent. I am happy to post! Hopefully you can open it.

. . . I think each teacher come with their own version of APA style. I don't get.. They are grading this class like it is an English class.

I agree and find it frustrating. The University states APA format so if it's acceptable in the APA styleguide, that should be the end of the story.

OK, I'll go back under the covers now . . .

Chuckster, I feel your pain. An exercise in futility...that's what this is. If you can manage to survive with a B or better you get your BSN. Yippee...

I feel your pain on the APA stuff, guys. But for what it's worth, in the Transitions class, I got dinged on a lot of APA formatting. However, I went exactly by the examples given in the APA handbook, because I figured that'd be pretty hard to argue with.

After I got a 70% (seriously!) on a paper, I e-mailed the TA and prof, citing specific examples and page numbers in the APA handbook. I said something like, "I just want to make sure I understand this so I don't make mistakes again, but in the APA handbook, pg. XYZ, Section 1.A, it states that commas are to be formatted this way, which is how I did it in my paper; can you please help me understand?" (LOL)

It took me probably an hour and a half to get my references together and send an e-mail, but miraculously, my grade went from a D to a B. Innnnnnnteresting. So if you can find references in the handbook for the way you've formatted, try and e-mail them...it can't hurt.

Good point. I went from a bleak 75% on the 335 paper to an 80%, which I still think is a raw deal. Anyhow, communication can be beneficial. What I find so disturbing is that it all seems to boil down to the TA and their particular idiosyncrasies. This makes it incredibly challenging when changing classes.

you both make great points. There is something wrong with this picture!! Remember how I had to question the test in Transitions because 2 of my answers were actually correct? Their simple mistakes are the difference between our passing vs failing grade and retaking the class again. I really don't like that but I guess that's how it is in the college world!! lolol. On the brite side....it's much better typing out a paper on the computer than a typewriter like I last did!! :lol2:

I thought I was the only one here old enough to know what a typewriter is! How did you DB post go for Mod 2? I can't wait until this class is over. Hey, didn't I say that last session??? :bowingpur

Oh, no - I took typing in school on an manual typewriter - not even an electric LOL

Me too! I remember my first research paper - typed on a manual Brother typewriter. Footnotes included. Computers are muuuuuuch better!

Complete with whiteout!!!

Wow- you had whiteout!!! I had to use some silly eraser-type thingy with a brush on the end of it! Then someone invented correction tape! That stuff was cool and really high-tech compared to an eraser :bowingpur
