OU ABSN 2018 (2017 Applicant)

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hey there! I am looking to apply this fall for the 2018 OU ABSN program. Any others find their way here yet?

I am still finishing up my first bachelor's degree but will be done in Dec. 2017. I was told that I can still apply in the fall.

I am expecting rejection or waitlisted due to the fact that I won't be finished with my degree, and my cumulative gpa is pretty rough. Hoping to have a 4.0 in last 60 and a 4.0 in Science with a pre-reqs completed to give myself a shot.

Would love to find others on this same journey!

Hey, I don't think you are behind. There has been very little communication from the school. I attempted to upload back in January and it did not work. That was before the dates had been changed from the lawton group I think. Or could be user error. I seriously doubt any of us are very far ahead. Can't wait to meet people tomorrow

That makes me feel so much better! See you tomorrow!

Has anyone made a FB group for OKC campus yet?

Hello! To those of you that were accepted and currently in the program- I'd love to hear from you about your experience so far!

Hello! To those of you that were accepted and currently in the program- I'd love to hear from you about your experience so far!

We're finishing up our fall semester at the moment with finals next week in OKC. I noticed our timeline for admission deadline is different than yours this year as we were just being notified of acceptance at this time last year which was a stressful time all together.

In terms of general information about my experience so far, the program is very doable. We're finishing up what seems like the actual science-behind-nursing classes right now: pharmacology and acute and chronic. It's humbling and it takes up much of your time, but if you're willing to work, most everyone will be able to get through the program. The majority of the faculty and staff are there to help you succeed with only a few there to just collect paychecks. The workload isn't too insanely difficult but managing time is of the utmost importance. Your peers are your best friends throughout the program. You spend a lot of time together. Clinicals have been by far the best experience because for me, I came from a business background and just being in the middle of a health care setting has been very fun. After only 7 months, we're halfway there to being nurses which is fun, exciting and terrifying. You'll understand why this time next year.

Could you tell me what your schedule looked like? I am trying to figure out which is the best fit for my family's schedule.

Thank you for posting that! I was starting to get worried and felt like I should be doing something but they haven't offered a lot of direction. I wish they would have sent out emails to those of us who start in the summer telling us to hold tight. It would probably save them hours of responding to emails.

Here is hoping more information comes soon!

Hi!!! I was wondering if you could update how you like the program? What does your day to day look like including clinicals? THanks

You should plan on Monday-Friday 8-5, at least for OKC campus. The 8-5 bit varies slightly, but in general that's what you can expect. We've been told that in the final semester our schedule will vary according to the schedules of the nurses we follow for the leadership class, so we may have overnights or weekends at that point.

Thank you for your response! We just received an email stating they are having a meet and greet type thing Feb 18th for the Tulsa campus with students so I am looking forward to speaking with current students.
