Hello Everyone!

I am a starting a new thread for those applying for the Grad entry program at OSU this October for 200 entry. I am a super excited yet super nervous, I know the waiting process is tedious. I haven't applied yet, currently finishing up two pre-req courses. I am a Respiratory Therapist pursuing the FNP tract. Super excited for everyone.

Hi, My computer froze when I tried to attend the info session, now there are no more until after the deadline. Any advice you can give me about the professional statement would be highly appreciated! ?

There is a application help video on the nursing Facebook page if this helps !

New to the site, but happy that I found this thread!

I'm currently watching one of the application help sessions that was recorded on Facebook. My app is already complete so I'm really wishing that I had waited until I saw this.

I'm also curious as to how competitive the program is. My GPA is pretty low and I'm super nervous as to how much it will affect me. I understand from the admissions sessions that, depending on the year, admissions per specialty are around 45-50%, but I have no idea how that compares to other programs.

Also, is anyone else here really peeved about the recent 32% tuition hike?

Hey, you can submit a new professional statement if that's what you are wishing you could do again. I had my application submitted before I went to the info session and was able to submit a new professional statement afterwards. They will only read the most recent I was told. My first one had a big NO-NO in it so I assume they weren't lying because I got accepted.

Hey Mary,

Welcome to the thread. I also have already submitted my application and have wished I knew there was a help session as well. ? My GPA is also not the greatest but I made sure to work hard on leaving an impact with my personal statement. In the info session there was a heavy emphasis on your personal statement. I am also curious about how competitive the programs may be. I am trying to put this application in the back of my mind hoping I will blink and February will be here. Seems like such a long wait !

Read my comment to Mary above, that may be helpful to you as well.

DO NOT write that you want to do research. DO Write that you want to put evidence based research into practice.

I was told in my info session that anyone who said they wanted to do research was automatically denied.

Wow, really? My background is in clinical research and is a big motivator for why I wanted to pursue the FNP. This is honestly surprising to hear, and I have a sudden sinking feeling since I wrote a LOT about my desire to continue in this field but at a higher level. Why is research such a no-no?

Mary, are you going for your masters, your PhD or DNP? I was (for whatever reason) assuming you were going for your DNP. PhD is research and DNP is evidence based. I am going for my DNP and attended that session and provided feedback from I remember from that session. Private message me so we can talk further but I wanted to make that clear for anyone else who reads the thread.

Hmm, doesn't look like I am allowed to send any private messages yet.

I am applying for the direct entry MSN (undergraduate degree isn't in nursing). Do you think that makes a difference? I would like to go back for either the DNP or PhD someday, but honestly not sure which. I lean more toward the DNP, as I find that the nursing PhD research (at least what I've seen) is a lot of fluff, but I would love to be proven wrong in this! With the DNP, there are still tons of opportunities in clinical research to be a PI or a co-investigator who works directly with the subjects, so I'm still stunned that it would be a recommendation to NOT mention research for a DNP program, given these types of opportunities and need. Additionally, working with the subjects enrolled in clinical trials is very different from EBP.

Mary, if you're going for your masters right now, I would assume you can include research. I understand your point regarding the DNP and that is true. However, you have to remember that many others are applying for the same spot and those looking at the applications would consider someone who emphasizes evidence based practice over someone who includes research. Your professional statement is weighted heavily. That's in your future though, right now, regarding your masters.... I don't see why you couldn't include research but I'm not sure what advice was given in that session. I'm praying all the best for you.

Hey all!!

I haven't been on in a bit but just wanted to check in. Has everyone submitted their application? I'm a bit hesitant because I'm nervous about the online interview (despite everyone saying not to worry lol). I want to give my letter of recommenders adequate time to work on that but I'm nervous to submit and have to do the online interview right away! With the deadline quickly approaching I want to get this done asap but just have anxiety about it. For those of you who have already done the interview, do you have to get it done in a certain time frame after submitting the application itself? Or does it just have to be done by the deadline? I'm hard at work making final edits on my personal statement so the only thing really making me nervous at this point (before submission) is the interview.

Any words of encouragement or advice are greatly appreciated! I hope you are all doing well and getting along fine with your applications. ?

Hello @cbree14!!

I have submitted my application about a month ago . Everything as of now is completed. As far as when the interview was completed I didn’t specifically have a time frame after I submitted my application. They do stress that your reference feedback is provided/ completed by the deadline as well as the video interview or your application isn’t considered completed. I have completed the video interview I stressed so much about it, and overanalyzed my answers after, but I feel I did my best. After the interview i said to myself I’ll try and just forget about the app until February (yeah right) ? . Hope all is well with you wrapping up your app and interview. Im sure you’ll do great . Good Luck to Everyone !!

Hi there!

Anyone else applying to the PNP specialty? I’m working on wrapping up my Purpose and Goals Statement and hoping to submit by tomorrow!

Hi there! I applied for the AGPNP speciality. Do we really have to wait until late feb to hear back? I hope we hear back sooner. The waiting game is rough.

From what I’ve read in the past few years, yes. It seems that rejections were sent early in some years (December), and some acceptances took until late February!

What is everyone doing in the mean time? Did anyone else apply for the fellowships?
