Orientation is tomorrow...

Nursing Students General Students

I'm nervous! It's going to be for four hours! Even when I was a new college student, orientation was only an hour and a half. What on earth could be discussed for four hours? I keep thinking the silliest things, like they're going to tell us there's just too many people in the class, so hey here's a math test to see who gets to stay. LOL At least, I hope that's just a silly thing to think. :uhoh21:

I couldn't be more excited, but it's still just a bit nerve wracking.

Anyone else going to orientation soon?

Hi 1982,

You are lucky! Mine is 2 days (the 15th and 16th) from 8:00-6:00 both days. That includes a "working lunch" with only 1 break the first day. :uhoh3: Oh boy!!!

Good luck with yours and let us know how it goes~

OH MY GOSH! Are you joking?! Oh no! *hugs for you* lol That's just unfathomable to me. Wow, I feel very blessed for my little four hour day now lol!

Best of luck to you!!

Hey, mine was only 4 hours last year....but it was SOOO much info i needed to reread my paperwork 3xs to get it all down.....just stay on top of everything you can...there will probably be some personal growth items as well....

I thought NS orientation was pathetically boring! Ours was 5 or 6 hours I think. The beginning was interesting when other students came and spoke to us about studying and what to expect. But when they went over a few hours of nursing handbook information... I seriously wanted to just nap through the entire session. I understood hitting some major points in the handbook, but to go through the ENTIRE handbook was a bit much.. lol. Thankfully she only skimmed certain areas.

We also had to do our math test that day and there were some of us who needed to take the NET test (my school did not require the NET test prior to entering the school of nursing and we took it on orientation to see what our score was and so it was on record with the school -- things have since changed and is now part of the admissions selection).

I recommend bringing a snack, as you will probably need it to stay awake!

yeah we have a 4 hour orientation every year before NS starts up.. its the most boring day ever..we fill out all the paper work.. watch the confidentiality movie..go over everything that will be covered during the semester..and then break up into group to discuss things further.. lol

No doubt!!! They don't have but one break listed on the first day, and that is around 4:30. :uhoh3: After a lunch that is going to be provided by the student nurse association!! Hopefully they aren't going to hold TOO tight to that schedule! Being nurses themselves, surely they know that holding water for too long isn't good for the bladder (or for the floors for that matter"") :lol2:

Woo! I'm done! Well, with orientation;) Now comes the hard part, eh? lol It was basically just rules, handbooks, and what to expect. I think I'm very blessed as far as my teachers go, they seem wonderfully down to earth and they even have--gasp--sense of humors!;) They even had snacks and juice for us. My classmates seemed very easy to get along with, as well.

Oh and I'm so glad I didn't buy my textbooks beforehand! The bookstore here likes to lie and tell you what you need and that you have to buy it from them. Not so! The director gave us a book list today and next to every book except one, it said "*student may choose". So, instead of the drug book the bookstore offers, we can choose whatever 2007 book we want. I'll probably get the book the bookstore offers (Davis), but not from them...frankly, I hate giving them my business.

We also had to do our math test that day and there were some of us who needed to take the NET test (my school did not require the NET test prior to entering the school of nursing and we took it on orientation to see what our score was and so it was on record with the school -- things have since changed and is now part of the admissions selection).

Ok, what is with the math test? What's on it? What's it for? I seriously don't know what to expect at all as far as the Nursing courses go!!! I actually feel very stupid at this point BECAUSE I don't know what to expect!

Oh and to those who have yet to have orientation, please make sure you show up on time! At 9 am on the dot, they took roll, wrote down the names of the three absences and called them immediately. One girl showed up ten minutes late, one boy showed up AN HOUR late. Needless to say the instructors are not fans of tardiness. Honestly, orientation is the instructor's first impression of you in a classroom setting. Why screw it up?
