We just had Orientation part #1 on Thursday. Part #2 will be 2 weeks before the Fall semester starts. I'm so excited!
We were given a form to fill out if we wanted to request a seat change into a different cohort. For example, if you were placed in the Spring 2014 cohort and want to move to the Fall 2013. Or if you were placed in the 3-year, part-time program and want to move to the 2-year, full-time program. I was accepted into the part-time program and really want to be in the full-time program. So, I completed the form and I'm hoping I'll get switched. You have to write an essay that supports why you should be switched and then they look at your GPA and the number of admissions points you had.
Then we went over all the forms we'll need to submit by July. Vaccination records, criminal background check, fingerprinting, latex sensitivity & Hep B disclosures. Our uniforms are royal blue with the school's logo embroidered on them. We were given a list of the equipment we'd need (stethoscope, medimeter, penlight, scissors & gait belt). We can only get our uniforms at a particular store, so I went there and placed my order, since it takes about 3 weeks to get your uniforms (due to customized embroidery for the school logo). I also bought my stethoscope, which was a Littman Classic SE II. I got one with purple tubing, which looks good with the royal blue uniform. They'll also engrave it for no charge
It really made nursing school feel REAL, going to orientation and trying on the uniform. I was surprised how BIG scrubs run. I usually wear a medium size pants and a large top in regular clothes. Had to go down to a small pant and medium top. Felt good to go smaller Just walking out of the dressing room in the sample scrubs and seeing myself in the mirror made it really sink in. This is actually happening!!! It's not just a letter I got in the mail...it's really going to happen. Not a dream!!!
They're going to e-mail us a list of the books we need during the summer break. We have to buy 16 books (required, 21 if you buy the recommended books in addition). However, we get to use many of these books for multiple semesters, so it feels like a lot to spend up front but it evens out over the course of the next 2 years.
I can't wait to get started!!!

Just wanted to express how happy I am about the fall! Orientation was interesting, we are required to wear white smocks with royal blue trim. It used to be royal blue and they changed it. Anyone want to share their orientation experience?
