Orientation in 17 days!!!! I'm super excited

Published

Hey guys,

Im super excited about the fact that my first orientation is in 17 days. I know its still kinda super far away but its exciting because once i do my online orientation then the clock starts ticking. Everything becomes real from here on out. I kinda have some idea of things that i am supposed to be getting done so I've been working on that already but i am just so excited to be getting started. Our first orientation is online and our in person orientation is in November. I'm sure by the time November hits i'm gonna be crazy lol but either way it goes i am still super excited right now.

So today I realized that this semester was the last semester that I would ever be able to spend only $62 on books. I will truly miss this next January when my books are like $400-$500 (fingers crossed lol). While I am so excited about starting nursing school I will truly miss my super big refund checks that I used to get while taking pre reqs lol

I know I spent $730 dollars on books!!! I still have to buy uniforms and nursing shoes, and pay for my CPR course. I am going to be one broke nursing student .. Oh well it will all pay off in the end =]

Yes Jess that's what I keep telling myself as I swipe my card for everything nursing related. My bank account is starving lol. I truly just want to give it a hug (like the Geico commercials lol). I just keep think December 2015 (I've been chanting a lot, especially when i want to quit)

Our orientation is August 22nd. I'm SUPER excited!!! Can't wait to get started...yay! :D

I only ended up spending around 200 on nursing books this semester. I bought previous editions of Amazon for anywhere from $1-7 dollars for about three books. I only bought those used and older because we have the newer edition in the library available for us to look off of. I only bought two nursing books that are up to date, one off craigslist, and the other on amazon. I also bought my scrubs used off Amazon for like $10 so that was a big relief! Only thing I need now is a stethoscope.

1st semester Items: Fundamentals Reviews and Rationales, Fundamentals Davis Success Book for questions, Watch assessment videos online,

Things to master first semester: How to write a care plan, assessment head to toe, fundamental concepts

Challenges first semester: time management, stress, reading overload

Suggestions: Time management: learn to organize goals using a calendar so you can regulate appropriate use of your time,

Stress: include stress reduction techniques in everyday life, exercise, journal, yoga, etc.

Reading overload: Make sure you know items that are going to be tested on the nclex plus what your teacher

stresses in class. Assess your knowledge by testing yourself on the material covered.

Those are some really good ideas our scrubs we actually have to purchase because they are monogrammed with our school's logo I think they're like $80 for 2 sets. Our drug test and background check are $82 and our bc only goes back 7 years for the cost however it has to be from the age 16-present so any additional years they have to research past the allotted 7 you have to pay for :-( I'm not buying books until the end of this semester since my nursing classes don't start until January. Luckily I already have a stethoscope and bp cuff. I still have to get shoes too

Most people at my orientation wore business casual...or like what you'd wear to church. Most people wore dress pants and blouses. I saw a few dresses. One guy wore a gray suit and tie. I think it's better to be over dressed than underdressed.

Wow, I was sooooo not planning on slacks and blouse. I wasn't going to wear jeans, but khakis and a nice shirt and flats. Of course, we live in the country! So I will probably be dressed fairly average for my group. Hell, some people may show up in pajama bottoms or sweats, I see that in my school often.

My school requires them monogrammed too, I bought them off of a former nursing student. It was kind of funny, she had a ton in different sizes from becoming pregnant during the program :woot:

Nobody really dressed up for my orientation, but it might be a Florida thing, its too hot to try to look nice 24/7. I know people from New York would have a fit if they saw how casual our "dressy" look is.
