Oregon Health & Science University School of Nursing (OHSU) Fall 2020

Published

Hi future nurses!! I just applied for OHSU's nursing program for fall 2020 as a transfer student. Has anyone else applied yet?

Spoke to an admissions person they said within next two weeks for Portland.

Portland just sent theirs out. I got in!

I got an email saying I have been placed on the “highly likely” alternate list. Does anyone know how big this list could be, or the likelihood of getting accepted one placed on this list? It’s taken me 8 years to get my pre-reqs done, because I had to work. I took more than needed, as University of Portland was my first choice, but they aren’t accepting applications until 2021, for transfer students and they may even push that out. Some of my courses will expire before then. I can’t afford to keep taking all the additional courses that the rest of the Portland schools require on top of what I’ve already done. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

For those accepted, how many years of healthcare experience did you have at time of application?

Hey, great job on making it this far. This is purely an educated speculation, but I heard about 450-500 applied this yr, and they most likely trimmed that down to top 80-100 for the interview. Only the top 40 of THAT list got the initial acceptance, so if you are a "highly likely" alt, I would have to assume you must be within the next 10 next in line (or even 5? Not sure) for any seats if someone goes elsewhere. It honestly depends on where you are on that alt list, and how many decline. From my experience, there almost always are a few (1-4) that decline each yr, but this yr has been highly unusual b/c of covid19, so I cant say what will happen. Just think positive thoughts and hope that you'll get a call. One benefit of highly likely alt is that you will get a call sooner rather than later IF seats open up. Good luck, hope this helps.

I got accepted (after 3 yrs of trying). I got about one yr of CNA 2 exp, BUT I got over a 1000 hrs worked (lots of overtime). Some other stats: I got a 4.0 pre-req, took college Chemistry, over a few hundred hours of community service. I feel that OHSU looks at applicants more holistically than most other schools, so your story and passion for nursing matters as much as your GPA imo

PS: official acceptance/decline email is not sent yet, so dont expect any calls for a few days
