Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) ABSN 2024

Published

Hello everyone!

I haven't seen a post for OHSU's 2024 ABSN program and figured I would start one!

Hi everyone!! I am currently preparing for this cycle's interview which I plan to complete this weekend sometime. I applied for Fall 2024 in Portland but was open to any term in Portland if need be.

I have my BA in Psychology from OSU, have all my prerecs completed, and have been working in healthcare fulltime for 2 years since I graduated!

I also applied to the program last year and got an interview but ultimately didn't get in; when I met with a member from the admissions team, she told me that they interview approx. twice as many people as they have spots for each cohort! So in Portland they have about 75 spots and send out about 150 interviews (at least that was the stat last year).

Also for reference once people start completing their interviews, last year I heard back about my admissions decision on 3/3 (and the timeline has been almost identical so far this year so I expect to hear back by the same time this year probably)!

@Angelina Padua Thank you for sharing. So, did you wait a year to apply to the next cohort? (I am not sure how many cohorts are in one year) Would you mind if I ask this question? So, for this interview comparing to the last cycle's interview, what do you try to focus more? Like looking back, I should have done/practiced this way... so, Im focusing on this aspect more for this interview ...something like that.

Yup, I had to wait a year because OHSU only has one application cycle per year. last year I applied for Winter 2024 so now im applying for Fall 2024. Also, the admissions office gave me the option to receive feedback about my interview, and the main feedback I got was that I wasn't appearing super prepared in the interview questions and that in the written question, I needed to "sell myself" better, so I spent most of my time prepping how I would answer different situational interview questions since those are usually my weak spot. I'm also just focused a lot on appearing more confident/at ease in the recordings! For the written, I have a better idea now of what aspects of myself I want to present as reasons why I am dedicated to pursuing nursing now to sell myself more. Hope this helps!

@Angelina Padua Thanks a lot. It is very helpful. Also, it is good that OHSU gives feedback about the interview. I don't know how many schools give feedback. It makes me feel like OHSU is a good school!

Interview completed, intimidating and liberating all at once ?

Me too, finished the interview this afternoon. Best of luck everyone!

I have a BA in environmental studies and BA in women, gender and sexuality studies. I have AP II left to take. I'm in Microbiology now. My overall GPA in nursing cas is 3.44. I'm not local to Portland, out of state. I'm a single mom and super nervous to how doable it will be with a demanding schedule and limited help, but I figure the first step is to see if I get in. This is my first time applying.

What was everyone's overall GPA vs their GPA for pre-reqs and science? While I know overall GPA is considered, its interesting in an ABSN program since some of us got these degrees over 10 years ago now.

Also, did anyone else also apply to the Linfield ABSN program?

I got my first degree in psychology in 2017, GPA was 3.53. I took all of the core prerecs over the last two semesters earned a 4.0. I've been volunteering at my local hospital for the last ~6 months and worked in mental healthcare for 5 years. I did a lot of research on the program and their mission, and incorporated the program's values into my experiences in my supplemental question responses.

OHSU's admission office informed me today that applicants selected to interview "can expect to hear back about decisions around the beginning/middle of March". Hope this helps ??

I have a 3.79 overall right now and all As excerpt for one B+ in the prerequisites.
I'm so eager to hear back??

Specializes in nursing.

Has anyone who applied to the Ashland campus heard anything back or know when they are supposed to send out interview selections?

Hey guys ? Anyone has more info regarding OHSU's hospital fund offer for Portland's ABSN cohorts?
