Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) ABSN 2024

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone!

I haven't seen a post for OHSU's 2024 ABSN program and figured I would start one!

Yeah, also I am applied to Summer 2024, but some people applied to Winter 2025 as well. I am curious if this batch of interview invites only for Summer 2024, or Winter 2025 as well. I chose the option to be considered as Winter 2025 if I don't make it to Summer 2024. Anyway, im anxious but excited that I got one step forward!

I'm pretty sure it's just the one interview ! Congrats !! When is your interview ?

Also, which campus did you apply to?

Yeah just like everyone else it's due next Monday. I applied for Portland!

Hey everyone, just found this thread. Just got the email for the interview too! Very excited and definitely a little nervous. I applied for Portland for Fall 2024. Good luck with your interviews everyone!

I applied/interviewed last year and ultimately didn't get in. I got my interview invite yesterday, too. I believe they sent out interview invites over multiple days last year. I'm pretty sure it's something like ~500 people applied, ~100-150 get interviews, and then ~50 get accepted (for all semesters of Portland ABSN)

Would you mind discussing your interview experience from last year by private message? This would be so appreciated ?

Sorry, I can't. They have you sign basically an NDA for the interview. I will say, make sure you practice interview Qs by talking to a camera because it's kinda weird to be talking to yourself.

@Frankie2243 Did you wait a semester to apply to the next cohort? How did you make your application better? Did you boost up GPA (prerequisites), or doing more hands-on skills by working etc? I know I am anxious, and if I don't get in, I am not sure I should wait a semester, or go to a different program (if I get accepted). OHSU is a really good school, I really want to get in.

Oh got it, that's okay thanks. One question, there's time to prepare and time to respond. Is it okay to read from your notes while trying to keep eye contact with the computer camera? or should the notes be memorized as we take notes and strictly keep our eyes on the camera at all times when answering? And are all questions in one straight block at once, or each question is separated by prep time? (like are we being recorded during preparation, or only when answering). Sorry many questions LOL ?

I waited the whole year to reapply. Ohsu only does applications 1x a year. I decided it was worth it to wait for the program, since it's the only public academic program in Oregon (which is important to me). When I applied last year, I still had 2 more semesters of A&P to complete and practically no clinical experience. I did a CNA program over the Summer and work in a hospital now. In hindsight, I couldn't imagine doing an ABSN program without clinical experience. My GPA is/was 4.0 for prereqs so that's not everything for them

@Frankie2243 Thanks for your reply. Are you Oregon (Portland) resident? I am out of resident, and I am willing to move to Portland for OHSU. I applied a couple more schools, and OHSU is my top 1.

Forgot to mention, for those curious about the background of students invited to interview; I am an international applicant for OHSU's Fall 2024 ABSN, I will be 39 when the program starts (if admitted), I have 4.0 GPA on my prerequisites (taken online at local Oregon community colleges), I have one prerequisite pending completion (genetics), and will be graduating with a bachelor's degree in business administration this Summer (taken online at a U.S. university). Hopefully that helps.

I get the sense they are aiming are a very diverse body of student for this cohort (based on my own profile as I really didn't think I had the slightest chance due to applying from abroad).

Thanks for that! I was curious about everyone's background. I'll share a little bit too, I'm from Portland area so I am a local. I studied at OSU and finishing my last year right now online. I'm graduating with a bachelors in psychology. I'm just missing 2 courses right now, one that I am in and then the other I am taking this Spring. Both of which are A&P. My overall GPA is 3.83. My only experience has been working as a caregiver at an assisted living facility, which I've been doing since September 2023.
