I am 33 years old, with no college maybe a credit or two i only went for Six months, a very long time ago!
anyway I worked in the city ever since 2006. I got married and started working for my husband, thats a whole nother story. I just had a baby a couple of months ago. My question is, is it to late for me to become a nurse, have I missed the boat for this career? It sounds like 3 years of school, if i get accepted. I just wanted some honest personal opinions, as I am torn!
Thanks in advance!!

It is not too late. I will be graduating this spring and I turn 35 the end of this week. I have a classmate who is 46. Also knew a nurse who decided to go back to school at the age of 55. As you can see, it is NEVER too late. Good luck with your decison.

you will need to get your prereqs first, then school, if you get accepted. Talk to a school counselor to see what you will need, every school/state/location is different. Read the boards too, and make sure that nursing is what you want. It is a rewarding career, but right now very hard d/t economy. Good luck
thank you ladies! i appreciate the replies. i def would love to become a nurse something i always wanted to do and never pursued it. now im living my husbands dream, and i just cant do that to myself! plus i feel i would be a great nurse, as I love helping people, and making someone comfortable, and I very interested in the medical field!

It's NOT too late!! Please, 33 is NOT too old to start a career! I am 27 and going for my 2nd degree BSN (nursing school) and would you call that too old? Probably not, so you're only 6yrs older than me...which is nothing, so don't even think like that!

It will be very demanding, and hard with you just starting a family. You CAN do it, just be sure to research everything and know what you are getting into before you spend a lot of time and money. I will be 38 when I graduate! :)
Also, I will be honest and say I don't know how many 50+ people would work in this field because it is very physically demanding. I have been volunteering and can't believe the amount of physical work involved. So if you have any physical limitations be sure to research what is available for work in your area.
Good luck!!

HECK NO, it's not too late!!! If it's what you want to do, go for it!!! Honestly, I know more people in school for nursing who are doing it as a 2nd career, a little later on in life, than people who are just starting out.
I'm married with a child, and I left a pretty good job to pursue nursing school, and it's been a LONG road, but I'm almost there. I'll be graduating in May!! And another one of my friends is 33, has 2 kids, and is just starting her pre-reqs for nursing school. You can do it!! :yeah:Good luck to you!!

Yeah, it's over.
Kidding. I became an LPN at 53, an RN at 56, and have about a year until I get my BSN.
Go for it you young thing, you.

Oh no its never to late. My mom became a nurse at 35 with three kids and a husband. I was in 2nd grade when my mom graduated and my sister in kindergarden. My mom graduate cum laude (which i believe is 3.7 GPA). So yes ma'am you can do it. Of course there are some sacrificies. My dad had to do both me and my little sisters hair, he made us breakfast (cereal), ironed our clothes, and he made us dinner (hamburger helper, sloppy joes, and frozen pizza mostly). I remember my mom and dad would cut coupons out every sunday to save money. Even though me and my sister were very young, we didn't care cause all we wanted to do was play so we werent upset that she wasn't home most of the time. She still made time for us though but like i said, at that age we just cared about playing. I think you should go for it. You have to take pre requiste before you go to nursing school so you can take most of those online. Remember, your education is forever, a man isn't. God forbid you and your husband divorce and you don't have a job to take care of your little one.
Good luck

I am so happy to read this! I feel so guilty sometimes leaving my 3 kids all the time (6, 9 and 11) and pursuing this but we really need it for our family. Thankfully my husband has been awesome, sounds like your Dad ROCKED! :)
Thanks so much for all your responses!! i def appreciate it! and I am inspired to do this. i really want to, but dont want to leave my husband high and dry, as he depends on me to work for him. but on the flip side im so not happy working for him and living his dream! and like one of the women on here said if i got divorced my education and career would be forever! I am def doing all my research, and will probably start school in september, unless i can start in jan and get all my facts together, someone also mentioned online i will def look into that!!
thanks so much!!
