Hi, I am starting pre reqs this Spring. I am going back and forth on this and I can't decide! So to all of you that have taken these classes, this is what I can't decide: (maybe you can give me your thoughts)
I will for sure be taking A&P 1 and General Psych. What I can't decide is if I can handle adding one more class to it, Medical terminology. I don't work, I stay at home with my three kids. What do you think go for it or push it off till summer?
Any 2 cents would be great, and very much appreciated!

I guess it would depend on what time you have for your kids and who takes care of them. AP1 is pretty difficult if I remember correctly. I've tried to block out the that part of school, since I was a bit of a partier. haha. Anyway, good luck with your schedule.

How old are your kids? If you have school aged kids, then it wouldn't be so bad. You could study when they are at school. I took just Anatomy with a 1 and 4 year old at home and it was tricky at times, especially when they got sick and I had an exam the next day. I wanted to get an A, so I didn't take any other courses.
I have a 9 year old, 5 year old and 1 year old :chuckle hmmm I'm leaning towards not taking the med term right now, I need A's! Acceptance into the RN program is based on GPA... that will be my route after the LPN program
I guess I was looking for someone to say "Ya med term is a breeze, no prob!"

A couple of questions
How old are your kids?
What hours are you taking at school ? 2 days? 3 days? online?
Will the kids be in daycare while your in school?
Very important question...
How long has it been since you have been in school?
When I started my pre's I went 5 days a week.It was 12hours and 4 classes. I tried to space them out, So I would have time between to study.
3 of them M/W/F 9-till (can't remember) and T/Th 1 10-1130. But I had 1 in school and one in daycare so I could study after dropping them off in the morning and again till 330. So my nights didn't consist of school just family. Plus I didn't have to work. This was my first semester back after a long break and it was hard. But I did try to balance myself to take 2 hard classes and 2 easier classes. Which I was only guessing which would be harder and which easier.
Then I went to LPN school for a year which was 4-5 days a week 8-4.
Then I went 2 summer semesters A&P I and A&P II. I only took one class each b/c summer semesters are only a month long and I knew I would be cramming alot of stuff into a month!
Now since I've started working part time and I'm only taking 2 classes M/W/F 12-4 and working 2 12's at night. Which I still struggle at times but making good grades
This is just an example of things I did. Don't over do it if first time to school or its been awhile. Look all your hours in the day and write it all out. Don't tell yourself that " Oh I can study after 10 till midnight when the kids go to bed, when you know that even right now your ready to pass out by 9!" lol Plus If you over do it your grades could suffer and you don't want that if the school you're trying to get into is based on your GPA.

I started last Spring with those same two classes. It worked out really good for me. I had been out of school for a looooong time, so I was afraid to really start back with much more of a load. Medical Terminology would help you a lot with A&P, so you might take that first. I wasnt fortunate enough to get that advice, but my A&P teacher said what a nursing student learns from Medical Terminology and Chemistry will help them with everything else.
Good luck. Youwill do fine.

I am a firm believer in the "You can do anything you put your mind to" idea. That being said, I understand that not everyone processes information the same way. Everyone told me I was nuts for taking 5 classes when it was my first time in school in 12 years and I have 3 children. But, I am now in my 3rd semester of taking 5 classes, have maintained my 4.0 and even got a Tutoring scholarship this semester. So, you have to know your limitations. But, don't think that it can't be done. Good luck to you hon!!!
Thanks everyone! (everyone is so nice) Well I am thinking about taking med term, it is only one day a week, I can do it! I will be at school 2 days a week, tuesdays and thursdays. Grandma will be at my house with the kids. DH is very supportive.
Thanks again for the advice/input/and support!

well I will say that it is a breeze its basicly just memorization it will also help with AP and any nursing its a great class to have. However that Said its AP thats killer LOL just depends on your situation and how much time you have, you could always try and watch for drop dates if its too much.
