I just got home from school and offically failed my first nursing exam. Out of 60 questions on DM, Liver, Gall Bladder, and Pancrease, I got 24 wrong. This was the first exam of Nursing 3, the final is in 2.5 weeks, and the next exam is also in 2 weeks.
I know I am going to Nursing Three, I don't yet know how, but I am. I'm use to getting grades in the upper 80's, low 90's, so the next two exams I need to be flawless. And that exam is on Neuro and Endocrine. I need some moral support I think.

Yeah it's discouraging but you know what you need to do for the next two.

Oftentimes after I fail an exam I buckle down on the last ones and end up doing better than I would have after everything is said and done.

Perhaps it's a blessing in disguise.

By the way, I've discovered a wonderful new study food - chocolate covered espresso beans. Talk about wired!

So cheer up and don't be discouraged.

You know what you've got to do so go do it!

Dude, one exam doesn't mean squat.
Yeah it's discouraging but you know what you need to do for the next two.

Sorry, but that one exam doesn't mean squat is WRONG for some programs... Like Mine... If you made less than a 75 on a exam you had to retake it ( a much harder version) and if you made less than 75 on that one then you are out...

You might try getting NCLEX books and practicing the questions in them, it will help you to take tests and think critically. You can even study for certain context that pertains to the test you are taking in most of them. Good-luck, and don't give up!

I just wanted to say thanks to all for the support. I saw the exam again the other day, and I realized I knew the stuff cold. Unfortunately the lack of any sleep the night before aided in my low grade.

I did find out that the lowest grade does get dropped when (notice I said when) I pass the final. That will be no problem. I will just push myself a lot harder then I usually do and pass the class. I have a good grip on the material and I understand it.

Again, thanks for the support, cause I needed it.

You know we all go through an adjustment phase- especially with pathophys! Have you spoken to your professor about possible extra credit? I've often found that if the prof knows how hard you're working, their curves become more generous toward the end of the semester.

Either way just remember these types of classes have nothing to do with the great nurse that you're going to be someday and keep your chin up!

How about considering getting a pathophysiology book and after you understand how everything works, do some N-clex questions. Go back over your notes and make a note by the material that you dont understand and go back over that material. :)

What textbook are you using? Get the workbook that goes along with it and study the pathophysiologies backwards and forwards, then get an NCLEX book and do lots of practice questions. There's only so many questions that they can ask about certain pathos. For endocrine, don't get lost into trying to remember every single hormone and what it does. Focus on the main ones like aldosterone, ADH, cortisol... the signs and symptoms of the hypers and the hypos. They also love to throw in lots of questions about Diabetes Insipidus, SIADH, Pheo, Addisons, Cushings, and Graves. Read up on the signs and symptoms and the nursing interventions and you should do just fine.
