Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2017)

Published

Hey everyone :)

So fall just flew in so I thought what a great time it would be to start my nursing applications lol. It is very early, but I enjoy having this on my mind. I am in my final year at University and am hoping to be a nursing student come next September. I wanted to make a space where we could come together with a common goal: getting accepted. The schools I plan to apply are:

Trent, Toronto, Humber, Western and Queens

Possibly considering RPN programs as well.

Hi @Hopefulgal

Both humber portal and OntarioColleges were updated at the same time. I got an email after I confirmed the offer. Good luck!

Hi @hopefulgal! I'm also taking Biol 235 through Athabasca right now. I feel like I'm JUST starting to get a good study system going. It's a tough course!

Hi @future.RN.!

So nice to know I'm not the only one. I'm writing exam #2 on Monday, then on to the final push. If you don't mind sharing, what's your current study system? I'm still struggling to find something that works well for me.

You're way ahead of me! I haven't even written the first midterm yet. I just started the course on January 12th though. I'm taking it on a full-time basis, so I'm hopeful I'll be finished by mid-April. Right now, I'm studying about 8 hours a day. I'll start by reading the entire chapter. Then, I'll watch youtube videos or the animations on the WileyPlus website. I'll then re-read the whole chapter and write down the keywords and topics according to the Study Guide. If there are any terms that I'm struggling with, I make flashcards for them. I then do all of the study questions on the ORION site. Each chapter takes me about 2-3 days. I'm planning on writing the first midterm soon, but I don't know what to expect. Any tips?

Thanks!

I'm also taking courses! I'm not taking BIOL 235 at Athabasca, but I am taking English and Sociology and I'm finding it difficult to make head way on those courses. I also took ANAT 100 through Queen's distance ed last semester, and now I'm taking philosophy at Queen's. Overall I'm quite overwhelmed with all these courses on top of having a full time job, it's good to know I'm not alone though!

Hi @futureR.N.!

I feel your pain. It's definitely a slow process, but you'll make progress! The exams actually aren't too bad - they're all multiple choice, and very similar in structure/question type to the quizzes. I'd recommend you adhere closely to the study guide and be sure to know the diagrams in the book as textbook images are used in several questions.

Best of luck!

Hey guys! I got accepted to Humber last week too.

Still finishing up my supplementary appl for U of T. And writing CASPer next Thursday...... any suggestions?? I'm really nervous

I'm in the same boat - still working on my U of T supplementary application and also writing the CASPer next week. I've been doing any and all practice questions I can find. I've been working through them with friends and family to see what they think of my answers. It's just so subjective. I'm not sure it's something you can really prepare for.

Does anyone's application to Humber here say that this program requirement is not met:

[TABLE=class: datadisplaytable, width: 100%]

[TR]

[TD=class: dddefault]Proof of Successful Completion of Current Academic Studies at University Level with an Overall Minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0 or 74%

Humber has received my transcript, I've met (surpassed) the cut off, and finished my degree here in Toronto. I'm quite surprised that this is what I see on my Humber page. If anyone can provide some insight, that would be much appreciated!

I would contact the school if I were you! It is probably just a mistake

Hi @Starry101!

Does anyone's application to Humber here say that this program requirement is not met:

I have the same thing appearing on my myHumber page as well. And like you, I've surpassed the grade requirement, and Humber has received my transcripts (according to OntarioColleges.ca). I emailed the registrar and they said that it's taking them a while to update all of the myHumber accounts, and that should be corrected soon.

Hope that helps!

Hello! I have a quick question for anyone willing to help me out!

I have applied to the Humber Second Entry Nursing program. Upon logging onto MyHumber I see that I am missing the requirement of "Grade 12 Chemistry at the U Level or Equivalent with a Minimum Grade of 70%" I am applying with a university degree in sport and physical education and am wondering if this high school prerequisite is still necessary? If I do need it, does anyone know if it can be taken through ILC?

Thanks everyone!

Just got an offer from Queen's!! :D

still waiting for UofT, McMaster, Western, and UBC.

Just in case some of you are wondering,

I sent my application through OUAC in December

and submitted all my secondaries around 10th of January!
