Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2017)

World Canada CA Programs

Published

Hey everyone :)

So fall just flew in so I thought what a great time it would be to start my nursing applications lol. It is very early, but I enjoy having this on my mind. I am in my final year at University and am hoping to be a nursing student come next September. I wanted to make a space where we could come together with a common goal: getting accepted. The schools I plan to apply are:

Trent, Toronto, Humber, Western and Queens

Possibly considering RPN programs as well.

No I was told she were accepting students now with an 80% average... she said they just started though

To those of whom have applied to the second-entry nursing program at York, does it show that that they have received your CASPER results on MyFile. For some odd reason my casper results have been received by all other uni's that I have applied to except York. Just wondering as to whether this is the same case for everyone ....or just me?

I got accepted at Trent a few days ago, and I remember calling and they said that they were a little bit behind, and they might keep accepting people up until July!

Hi all! Long time lurker, just thought I'd update everyone. I received my acceptance to UofT yesterday. I had applied to UWO and UofT only, as they were my top two and I didn't have the money to apply to a bunch of schools. I graduated from Brock University with a degree in Public Health in 2016. I also spent a year in France learning French on exchange. During my time at Brock, I did an undergraduate thesis in falls prevention in a local hospital. I also worked for student health services in smoking prevention, and as a TA for a qualitative research class. My overall average is lower, 80, but I had an 86, and 84 in my last two years of study (not sure what that is in GPA). In the past year I volunteered at a local needle exchange, as well as an AIDS service organization.

And that's pretty much it. I submitted my application on the very last day. Let me know if you have any questions :)

Congratulations! :)

@harperh2h yayy!!! congrats! Im so excited to start in September! I wanted to join a facebook group for all incoming students in the fall at UofT :)

Hey, so I'm going to be applying to the second entry programs next Fall. I'm wondering how the last two years work. I'm going to be taking a summer semester (honestly, I took physics and want to void my 3rd year first semester because of the c+), and was wondering if this is what they would use:

Third Year 2nd Semester

Third Year Summer Semester

Fourth Year 1st Semester

Fourth Year 2nd Semester

This is what I'm assuming they would use, as I've read applicants typically get accepted from Feb - June. Also, I had a really bad first year and failed 2 courses (a lot of family/mental health issues), but still currently have a cGPA of 3.2, and aiming for a 3.8 this semester and onward. Does anyone know if that will impact my chances :( I'm also graduating with a certificate/diploma in Disability Management and Interdisciplinary Health studies that goes on my transcript.. anyone know if this will help me?

Also, has anyone applied to four year programs as back up? I am graduating with a Kinesiology degree and have so science credits and electives (some even transfer to nursing credits).

@Thar

Hey I emailed York just over a week ago about that, and within 5 minutes they emailed me back to say myfile has been updated, and right away it changed to received! Just email them, I'm sure they have it already!

@ Victoria93

Hi , it will be great if you could share "York" email address where one can contact regarding admission file. Thanks.

Hey guys, I have not applied to nursing for this year but will for September 2018. I plan to apply to about 8 schools accross Canada, but my first choice would be U of T. I am EXTREMELY nervous about not getting in because my GPA is not as high as many people's. I know you guys are not the admissions committee, but I would like some advice/opinions on my stats.

I just finished at U of T (graduating in June). My cGPA is about a 3.5 and my GPA during the last 2 years is a 3.6 I think (it's about an 83 average). This does NOT include this most recent (my last) semester since I don't have all marks in yet. Despite studying 8 hours a day and making no time for new friends, this is the highest I could have possibly made my average (I literally did everything throughout school to raise it). It seems like so many people here have like a 3.8-3.9 average.

My experience: 3 years and hundreds of hours work in various roles at SickKids. I have worked directly with patients and families, worked with nurses, handled medical equipment, triaged patients, learned the appropriate hospital attire for different illnesses, and spent about 30-40 hours doing ethics modules, hospital safety modeles, and patient safety modules. I also worked on 3 research projects at SickKids (2 of the projects were clinical). In addition, I worked with 2 profs at Health Canada on 2 additional research projects. One of these projects will be submitted to the BMJ with my name included (hopefully it will be accepted). I also worked on several health-related organizations at school and published in student journals.

What is you opinion on my chances? Anyone with similar stats to myself? I am so worried, especially regarding my GPA.

For anyone who got into U of T, it says we have 2 weeks to accept the offer, how did you do that? Do you just email them back to accept?

@Teneleven, you usually accept an offer through OUAC. If you have received an email usually within few business days the offers appears on OUAC under choices/offers

@Jamila08, thanks so much! I'm an internal applicant so the page looks really different and I'm not sure where the offer would even pop up, but I'll keep an eye out
