Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2017)

World Canada CA Programs

Hey everyone :)

So fall just flew in so I thought what a great time it would be to start my nursing applications lol. It is very early, but I enjoy having this on my mind. I am in my final year at University and am hoping to be a nursing student come next September. I wanted to make a space where we could come together with a common goal: getting accepted. The schools I plan to apply are:

Trent, Toronto, Humber, Western and Queens

Possibly considering RPN programs as well.

Did anyone receive an interview invitation from Nipissing SPP yet?

Hi future.RN, I just started biol 235, do you have any tips for the quiz, assignments and midterms? It would be nice if we're able to work on it together, although you're ahead of me.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Nicbrad :-) Do you think I should drop the research - I'm not sure how much nursing cares if you have research/publications or not and focus my time more on shadowing in nursing homes/volunteering in hospitals etc? Also, if I graduate after 4 years but still take some courses, such as redoing my pre-reqs to make them higher will those courses be counted when they look at my final two years or will they just be in my cGPA even tho I would have graduated?

Hi @vnski :)

When are you hoping to finish the course by? My biggest piece of advice is to stick to the study guide. If there is something in the textbook that isn't on the study guide, just ignore it (for example, the development section of most chapters). For the assignments, include LOTS of detailed information. I made the mistake of giving 1-2 paragraph answers for the first one and I only got 83%. They're looking for long, detailed answers. Hope that helps a bit!

Hi there @tesla20! I'm also taking BIOL 235 at Athabasca and I feel like I'm in the same boat as you. I work full time and use my evenings to study for the course. It can feel very overwhelming sometimes just trying to get everything in by May. I actually just wrote the midterm this past weekend - I was terrified that I was going to fail because of how much details there is to learn in the nervous system related chapters. Reassuringly the midterm covered the very basics of each chapter and I got an 82%. From what you're saying it seems like you've done quite some practice (I read the chapters, take notes and do about 20 questions / objective on ORION) so I'm sure you'll do much better than you think! Good luck :)

For anyone applying to Nippising for the SPP, I emailed admissions in regards to the delayed CASPer results, and they informed me that they not have received anyone's results as of yet, but they will be sending out interview invitations shortly. (The interviews will take place between April 10-14th.)

Thanks for the update @futurenurse612! I have been anxious to hear back and the delays are so nerve wrecking! Who did you speak to regarding the interviews? I have been trying to get in touch with someone from nursing to inquire further about the interview process.

Hi guys,

Anyone know how hard it is to maintain a competitive average in accelerated nursing for becoming a nurse practitioner later on? I will not be having a job when I'm in school, so all my time will be spent in my studies.

From what I have been seeing on this thread, I think research may help towards nursing! But maybe someone else can weigh in on that? I feel like if you did both it would look really awesome on your application, but I could be wrong. And I am pretty sure it is your most recent credits that they look at. So if you took 5 courses for example like this year, they would include those in GPA of last 2 years...not go back to the last 2 years of your undergrad and take those...especially if the most recent grades are higher. I went to an info session at York for 2nd Entry Nursing last year and they said they try and take your best marks where possible. So I would assume other schools would be similar!

Hey @tbn_jg :) Yeah I know how you feel, it's definitely an overwhelming class. That's really good to hear though about the midterm covering the basics, I'm still a little nervous so hopefully these last few days of studying will help.

@nicbrad_ I emailed the registrar's office and a person named ****** answered me ([email protected]).

I had heard from Nipissing that they would be sending out interview invitations by end of March. Does anyone have a specific date that they'll be sending out invites? They also still haven't gotten CASPer.. getting anxious !

Question for anyone who wrote the CASPER test and applied to Trent: are you still waiting for your results to be received? I wrote it about a month ago and it still says "please submit" when I log into Trent's website
