Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2017)

World Canada CA Programs

Hey everyone :)

So fall just flew in so I thought what a great time it would be to start my nursing applications lol. It is very early, but I enjoy having this on my mind. I am in my final year at University and am hoping to be a nursing student come next September. I wanted to make a space where we could come together with a common goal: getting accepted. The schools I plan to apply are:

Trent, Toronto, Humber, Western and Queens

Possibly considering RPN programs as well.

They told me that they haven't sent out any acceptances yet... but i've seen a handful of people post on here, so I have no idea to be honest

Did they say why? As in they are waiting for their first round picks to accept, or not. Or are they waiting for winter semester marks in order to accept more people? Omg so stressful:cry:

I got my acceptance into my backup program today (Ryerson 4 yr program - planning on transferring Uni credits for electives) but I'm still hopeful about the York program!

So glad I found this forum. I've been super anxious as I haven't heard from any of the schools I applied to (Western, York, and U of T) except from Western when they asked me to send my physiology mark. I'm doing some prerequisites this semester so I feel like I'll have to wait way longer than everyone else to get accepted, if it all :( Does anyone know if this is the case/is in the same boat?

Hi inspirited,

I also got a conditional offer to Humber this past week. My GPA was around a 3.3. I forget when their first application deadline was but I believe it was end of January and then they permit people to keep applying after that but it's on a first come first serve basis. So that might be why you could still apply throughout February.

Hey @teneleven! I'm in the same position as you; I've applied to UofT, Western, and Trent, however I'm in the process of finishing my physiology requirement and I'm hoping to have it done by the end of April. Someone on this forums said they were offered a conditional acceptance to UofT (2016 start) as they were still finishing pre reqs so it's possible you could get a conditional from them. However when I spoke to a rep at western a few months ago I was told that they use your outstanding pre req marks when making a decision and was told to try to have my marks in by April/May to put me in a better position because they wouldn't send out conditionals, at least that was my understanding.

For those asking, my average was 11.8 on a 12.0 scale in my last two years of undergrad. I was accepted to Trent and Humber over the past 2 weeks, but am really hoping for UofT (which I understand won't offer any admissions for a while). So if I get in to UofT, those spots will free up!

Although I have no outstanding prerequisites for Trent, I am still in the process of completing BIOL 235 (Anatomy & Physiology) through Athabasca University (which is required by Western, UofT, and Nipissing). Writing the final exam in a couple of weeks. Good luck to everyone else still struggling through that course, I know the feeling..... but we can do it!

Hi @tesla20. Thanks for the insight! I'm really hoping for a conditional from U of T since my outstanding prereqs don't seem to be the most important ones to them (psych and sociology) but I'm not sure about Western given that they don't do conditionals :( . Hopefully we can get a better idea of where we stand as people start getting offers and posting here

Hey @teneleven! I'm hoping for a UofT acceptance as well but I don't think they're going to start sending them out until late April/early May. The suspense is killing me! :(

@tesla20 tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full. How did midterm 2 go?! :)

Hi @tesla20. Thanks for the insight! That's weird. Western gave me a conditional in early March. I'm just completing an anatomy prereq. It seems like they're telling people different things :/

Hey Rhythm0! What! Well now I'm even more confused :( I'm also finishing my physiology/anatomy pre req and I had multiple conversations with Western in the fall of 2016 about when I should aim to get my marks in, as originally I was planning on finishing it in June (because working full time and finishing a full credit course in 4 months is extremely difficult, so I wanted a little more time). When I said that, she told me that it would be better for my chances if I got my marks in sooner because all the first spots would go to people who had all the requirements (i.e. pre-reqs done), and that say in the case that myself and someone else had the same credentials but they had that pre-req and I was still waiting to submit my mark, that the spot would go to the other person. That's how I understood the conversation. Idk maybe I misinterpreted what she said but I definitely was under the impression that they would use any outstanding pre-reqs to make a decision :( congrats on your acceptance though! That's awesome!:)

Hey @future.RN.! It was alright, I did better than the first midterm which is good but I wish I could have gotten a few extra marks correct haha. Oh well! I'm pretty satisfied overall :)
