Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)

Published

I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!

I was accepted to the Nipissing SPP. It is my first choice, but it also depends on the placement - as I don't want Sick Kids as my main one. I will likely be declining Humber soon as a result, so hopefully that opens up a spot for someone on here. =)

why do you not want to do your placement at sick kids?

I have less interest in paediatric nursing. Considering you would do most of your placements in that area it is something I have to consider in making my final decision. Either way one person will get a spot opened up. :)

Hi Linfak22 send your transcript for evaluation to wes now if possible..it takes time.so if you want to apply this year start the process now

If you have applied to nippissing please I would like to know if you completed your pre-requisits before applying.

Just received conditional offer from U of T! Still need to complete two Prerequisite courses. Here is my application pack: GPA:~3.2 (Did undergraduate on Biochemistry in Hong Kong with masters degree on Biomedical communications from U of T) worked in healthcare advertisement agency for about 5 years, serving pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Didn't do any volunteer work before apply the program.

I think I will accept the offer since I applied U of T in last min and it is the only school I applied.... I will see everyone in September![/QU

were u given a time limit to finish your pre-requists

I have not finished the anatomy prerequisite for nipissing as I just did physiology. I was offered admission (not conditional) on Web advisor. However I'll have to see what my letter says.

Maky - I checked on OUAC and here's what it says:

BSc Nursing - Scholar Practitioner Program

Offered Admission

Must take anatomy & physiology by the end of your first year

Also, for those who are on the waitlist for Nipissing SPP, offers expire July 3, 2015 (or at least mine does), so you may not hear anything until that point. =)

To put things in perspective, I was on the wait-list at York last year until August 29th and was ultimately rejected. I was living abroad and only applied to the one school and called them periodically asking for updates. I was often told that it was "a good sign" that it still said "no decision yet". My cgpa was around a B/B+ and my last 10 courses were a high A-, best 10 A+/A. When I found out that I was rejected (over the phone because myfile still hadn't updated) I was told that if I were to apply again, that the deciding factor that didn't qualify me was likely my prerequisite marks as some of them weren't as strong.

This year, I applied to Trent, Nipissing SPP and York again. I was accepted to Trent in February and to Nipissing (first choice) this week. Still waiting on a response from York, though I won't be attending.

Good luck to everyone!

Thank you for the info~~! I don't remember seeing this before, but the admissions criteria now says all prerequisites must be over 6 (york scale). I'm worried that I won't qualify because my one pre-requisite is a 5... Good luck, where ever you choose to attend!

I noticed about a week ago that they changed their grade requirements on the site, this must have been done recently. Makes me nervous as well since I also have a prereq under 6.

For those who have received offers from York, were all of your prereqs above B? Just trying to get an idea...

I just called york admissions and he said if the admissions criteria was updated a few weeks ago, that probably applies to next year and not this year...and that no decision yet really means no decision yet.

Did he say if they'll be reassessing this week considering offers expire today?
