Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)

I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!

For those who have received offers from York, were all of your prereqs above B? Just trying to get an idea...

Mine were all B (6.0) and above, but if they just changed that requirement then I'm sure it will apply from next year

Got an email from UofT this afternoon stating i have been put on the waitlist. They will contact me before September 4th if a vacancy becomes available. Anybody have any experience with waitlists? What are the chances of them accepting you?

Hey guys!

SO I'll just get right to it! I'm entering my final year in Honours Health Studies and Gerontology. Right now, my average is quite low. It's a 7.8 but my last 2 semesters have been almost all A or B's. Last summer, I worked as a Recreation and Restorative Nurse at a Long Term Care Home, and this summer I am a Clinical Aide at McMaster Family Practice! I have extensive volunteer in a Jewish nursing home in Hamilton, and I am trying to get into Hamilton Health Sciences to career shadow or do friendly visits. Anyway, I want to apply to U of T for the accelerated nursing program. How likely do you think this is? I know I can really pull up my average in my final year this September :)

To the applicants who are still waiting for York, are any of you internal?

Thanks!

Im still waiting for York and in external

I know the internal spots are filled, but I'm hoping there's some sort of waiting list (fingers crossed).

Just got a call from Western - I was on the waitlist and got a spot! Avg in last 10 courses was 83.68%. I hope that gives some people a reference for where they are at who are still waiting to hear from Western.

Waitlisted yesterday by U of T, I hope I'm at least in group 1...

Does anyone know how many people apply to UofT's program compared to how many get in?

So I was an internal applicant at York and unfortunately got rejected because spaces apparently got filled up but I emailed the department and my GPA did not meet the cut off. She said the cut off this year is a cumulative GPA of 7.00 on the York scale.

Just to give everyone an idea of where I was at,

my overall GPA was a 6.78 and my GPA for the last 30 credits was a 7.9

For the specific requirements:

Anatomy --> A

Physiology --> B+

Stats --> A+

Microbio --> A

Philosophy --> A

Psych --> A

Humanities --> C+

The three 3000 level courses --> A in all three classes

While I did think my chances were pretty good, York's program is HIGHLY competitive. I did however get an offer from another school so that's a relief! Congratulations to those who got accepted, and good luck!

Why is Yorks cut off a cGPA if they only specified that they look at sGPA?

They look at cGPA and your GPA in the last 30 credits (5 full courses).
