Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)

Published

I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!

It's 6 more days until I have to pay a $500 deposit to Humber second entry program. It's my only offer so far :(

Anyone here accepted Humber's offer and decided to go? I'd appreciated if you can share some of thoughts on your decision.

they said it's general, i think they only give you preference over the external candidate if you have exact same GPAs

Ironically I'm graduating from York University in Kinesiology and Health Science at the end of the summer. I applied to York as well and got in. But I declined my acceptance because York is all about theory. One of my best friends is in the 2nd entry nursing program right now and I really am not a fan of all the theory based work they do. I accepted Humber 2nd entry nursing! The clinical program is amazing from the many people I heard graduate from there including my aunt and good friends. And it has superb professors and a great nursing society group that I happen to be exec on :) Starting in sept! Hopefully I convinced you! Hi Samiira7, thanks a lot for your input. Having good clinical and being more hands-on is a plus. I do like that too. I would like to get hear more about your opinion. Do you mind I ask for your contact info, and to speak to you about this some more.

I got rejected by UofT York Trent and Humber. Basically all those that I applied. For two reasons - my GPA is not high enough, my last two year gpa is 3.04 out of 4. I do lack some pre-reqs but not for UofT.

Sigh.. should I try again next year or give up? Should i really dump my money and do all pre-reqs, knowing that my undergrad GPA wouldn't increase by much?.. so depressing. I don't know what to do now with my Health Studies BA.

hey, can i ask why york rejected you

sorry to hear- Next year try applying to Nipissing SPP

it's just I am lacking of the micrbology course

Ok -take a microbiology course and re-apply. I know you must feel frustrated

But do re-apply and please look into the Nipissing SPP program

All the best

im sorry to hear that. my case is actually quite similar to yours. ive been rejected by uoft, trent, queens, western and nipissing. honestly, my only hope right now is york so im dying to know what their response is. my gpa is only around 3.2 so its not that competitive either. i just want to ask when did york send you the rejection and did they actually say your application was unsuccessful because you didn't have microbio? best wishes to you and don't give up! :)

Hi everyone.

I applied to McMaster, Western, Queens, Trent, & Lakehead. I got rejections from Western & Queens, an alternate from Trent, haven't heard from mac, and Acceptance into the 3-yr compressed lake head.

I'm really struggling with whether I want to move 15 hours away to lake head or go back to Guelph (just graduated in HK) to try to raise my GPA and apply to more places next year.

I also recently applied to 4 colleges for the 4year programs and also Humber's 2.5 year program, but I am on the wait list for all of them.

Is there anyone here going to lakehead who knows more about the program or has any opinions about it and/or moving?

Or is there anyone who has been or is in a similar situation?

Thanks!

Also feel free to email me instead if it is easier! ([email protected])

Hey,

So I was exactly in your place last year (even in HK at Guelph). I stayed for an extra year and reapplied to the same schools and a few more. My thoughts were, I knew I could bump up my GPA for my last year (or fall semester, at least) and that I would add more extracurriculars to boost my application to those schools that require them. I decided that coming back for a year and working my butt off to get into a two-year program was better suited to me than doing a 3-year program far from home. I found taking an extra year allowed me to take any course I was interested in, including some first year courses, and gave me the time to join clubs and volunteer with professors which I had not done previously.

I reapplied and got into or waitlisted at everyschool I applied for. Personally, I chose to come back a year and it helped me!
