I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!

Oh and one of my prerequisite marks (micro) was actually 75%, not 79% - woops! Maybe that'll make some of you who are worried about prerequisite marks feel a little better :)

Congrats on getting in!

Congratulatoins @akllrs! I was just wandering did you repeat any courses to achieve your overall average? I'm also a York student and just currently finishing up my undergrad and will be applying to the nursing program at york for next year! Thanks :)

@ak11rs did you first find out about your acceptance through e-mail or through myFile?

Hello! No, I didn't repeat any courses. I just worked really hard in my third year to bring my overall gpa up. Honestly, my first year marks are brutal. So I would just recommend working your hardest this year :)

I just found out through my file! I still have not received an email, which is kinda odd considering western & u of t both emailed me.

ive been refreshing myFile almost every minute since this morning and my status is still the same :( has anybody heard from york today? sorry, im just dying to find out if i can get in. its my only hope.

does anybody still have "no decision yet" as their application status? im getting so anxious and worried

lots of people still do, me included!

Hey everyone,

I just graduated from the Humber/UNB 2nd Entry program. If anyway has any questions about the program I'd be more than happy to answer them :).

Hi relizabeth,

I was wondering what the job prospects are like for a newly graduated nurse? In particular in Toronto if you know.

Not good. As I'm sure you will see if you browse through the site and talk with any of the long time members of allnurses, the whole "nursing shortage" seems to have been a bit of a lie that was sold to us.

I am one of the few people in my graduating class who has a job, and most of them got theirs from pregrad. That said, I don't know what the market will be like in 2-3 years.

What I learned (and was encouraged to do by the members of AN) was to apply to everything. You can't be super picky as a new grad with no experience. So I applied to any job that was within an hour commute of me, especially in smaller town, and on floors that maybe weren't what I REALLY wanted to do.

A lot of my peers haven't quite realized how tough the market is yet and are getting disheartened because they have applied for 10 jobs and haven't heard anything back. I applied for over 70 I believe, and I got 3 interviews from that and then 3 job offers.

Do well in school, and take some extra classes if you can. I took an arrhythmias course and my ACLS during pregrad and it definitely gave me a bit of an edge. Also make sure you develop good relationships with clinical instructors if you can. They will be the best references you can have (and you will need a few after graduating).

Hi, do you know if the job market is any different/better for people who don't mind working in rural or northern areas of Ontario? Or are the job shortages more of an Ontario/nationwide sort of thing?
