Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)

I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!

You gave me hope sparklerr!☺️ Do you mind sharing your gpa? And what do they look? Is it the final year, the cumulative gpa, the prerequisites grades and the 250 words letter? Because I calculated my final year with the Uoft calculator and it gave me 3.46. I have good grades in the prerequisites like lots of A, but im still waiting.

Based on the website, they say they only look at the final year. My final grades averaged a 9.2 on McMaster's grading scale, which is in the B+ range. So my GPA was above 3.3 but below 3.7 if you look at the conversion.

I think they look fairly closely at the supplementary application and prior experience and education. A lot of people in our program have Masters degrees and diverse work experiences. It's not all about grades!

I'm also still waiting :( I was hoping to hear sooner than later, since I'm finishing my last prerequisites and time is ticking. Anyone else still working on finishing pre-reqs?

Don't get too discouraged if you haven't heard back from your top choice!

I am currently at U of T in the second entry program (accepted last year) and I was accepted off the waitlist! I was waitlisted at the end of June, and they were giving out acceptances until that point as well.

Hang in there, guys!

Hi sparklerrr,

Would you mind sharing when you got accepted off the waitlist and which group you were in? I'm just curious as to how long this whole process can go on for lol.

I'm working on Biology 235 through Athabasca University (anatomy & physiology). I only applied to Western this year as I missed the deadline for all the other schools (changed career paths fairly late in the game). If I don't get a conditional offer from Western (for example, if I get put on the waitlist), I know I'll have to reapply next year because there's no way I'll finish this pre-req before late July/early August.

What pre-req are you finishing up? And what schools did you apply to?

Good luck

I was in the first group. I actually didn't get accepted until August 27th. I had contacted them before that, and they told me no one had been accepted off the waitlist before that. It varies year to year though, depending on if people cancel their acceptance.

Great, thanks for the info :)

Has anyone heard from Western or UofT lately or know where they are in the acceptance process. From what I have read the largest round of acceptances for Western goes out near the end of May and its near the end of May...just wondering if anyone has heard anything yet..

Thanks

I'm waiting on Western as well. I checked the thread from last year and it looks like Western sent out emails on May 28th. Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer!

I emailed Western yesterday and was informed that the cutoff average is currently at 86%.

Anyone heard back from York yet?! lol

I don't understand that because my average is above 86% and I have not been accepted by Western yet

That makes no sense! Unless they don't actually just look at the average.. But I don't understand what else they would use if there is no supplemental app. Perhaps the prereq grades? Maybe someone with a lower average had really high grades in the prereq courses. But if you do too then I have no idea what's going on :S
