Ontario Second-Entry Nursing (2015)

Published

I know it's early, but let's get a thread going. 2015-hopefuls, share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and experiences here!

im an external applicant and my status says "no decision yet" as well. I've completed all my prereqs so I'm just waiting for my final official transcript to be sent in. hopefully we'll start getting responses soon. i remember most people got their acceptances in early june from the 2014 forum.

how many prereqs were you taking at the time, if you don't mind me asking? I had 3 outstanding prereqs then, but now I only have 2 outstanding, so I'm hoping to hear back soon!

I was taking 2

Anyone hear from York recently?

I'm an external applicant but I graduated last year so I'm not waiting for my marks to go through or anything.

Hi guys,

I only applied to Western and Trent for compressed nursing. I got accepted into Trent, and called Western this morning, they told me it's a rolling admission so they will keep sending out acceptances until all seats are filled. My sessional gpa (last 10 credits) is 3.56 so I don't know if that is competitive enough for Western.

Does anyone know how Trent works and if it is a good program? I live in Toronto and want to eventually settle here. I'm worried about going to Trent now because I read on one of these forums that you can't get placement outside of the university's location and I'm assuming that you get a job afterwards based on where you do your placement.

Alternatively I was thinking of going to Trent for a year and then applying again to other 2nd-entry/compressed nursing programs closer to my home like UofT, York or Humber.

Nursing was my backup to some Masters programs I had applied to but did not get accepted.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi guys,

I'm assuming that you get a job afterwards based on where you do your placement.

I spoke to a family friend who is a nursing manager and hires nurses, and I was informed that nurses are hired based on the skill set they possess, not based on where they did their placements. I.e., if you want to work in a mental health department, you should possess a skill set in that area (which is attained by doing a placement in that area).

I'm assuming that getting a job in Toronto as a new grad would be very difficult anyway.

From what I've read, transfers are not allowed into second-entry nursing programs, and they don't accept students w/ prior nursing experience/education.

Has anyone else received a conditional offer from McMaster? I checked my applicant account today and the status of my application has changed from "pending" to "conditional". However, there's no additional details on what the conditional offer entails. I graduated last fall so it shouldn't be dependent on receiving final grades so I'm not sure what the conditions would be..

been reading here for the last two weeks. I might not be competitive at all...I applied to uofT

I received 3.1/4 according to uofT gpa calculator in the my last 10 half courses (you can just google it, its the first one that comes up).

Just waiting for my school to get it together and update my last grade (which was changed last minutes)...taking many business days unfortunately.

anybody knows of people with such low grades for their last year of ug getting accepted? I have a strong reference, 2 summers of research and lots of other ecs/volunteering

tnx.

I received a conditional offer from Mac about a month ago, it takes approximately a week for your letter to show up once your status has changed. It will be under the student centre tab and there will be a link "view offer". I also received an email from them but that was approximately 2.5 weeks after I noticed the blue square (and evidently after I had already accepted the offer) my conditions were simply that I got no less than (I believe?) 60% in my current courses and that I complete the prerequisites. Not really sure why yours would be conditional if you're not taking any courses currently, but the letter will eventually show up

Just received conditional offer from U of T! Still need to complete two Prerequisite courses. Here is my application pack: GPA:~3.2 (Did undergraduate on Biochemistry in Hong Kong with masters degree on Biomedical communications from U of T) worked in healthcare advertisement agency for about 5 years, serving pharmaceutical and medical device companies. Didn't do any volunteer work before apply the program.

I think I will accept the offer since I applied U of T in last min and it is the only school I applied.... I will see everyone in September!

Thank you!

Thank you Anon101 and PillsNPotions for your helpful replies! =)

PillsNPotions will you be attending Trent for sure and will you be living on campus?

I received that Trent package and it had info regarding expenses, it'll be close to 20 grand per year =( I want to live on campus mainly to make friends and form study groups so we can help each other out but I'd rather live off campus rent a place and save money. I don't know what to do.
