Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

Hi guys! This might seem irrelevant to this topic, but how did you guys know that you want to be a nurse? I'm in 4th year, and applied to accelerated nursing programs. I have been debating for a while if I'm good enough to be a nurse or WANT to be a nurse. I have been extremely stressed because I don't want to get into something I don't like and then end up regretting it.

Hey, I'm not a fresh grad so had another career prior to applying to accelerated nursing programs again (I was accepted and left the program 2 weeks in to pursue something else, while my sis ended up compeleting the program and becoming an RN). 10 years later I'm switching careers and applying to be a nurse again. Over the years, I have realized exactly what nursing entails and many diff. streams/opportunities you can pursue after having your RN. Sometimes it takes awhile to figure out your speciality and find the right work environment. I would suggest reaching to any nurses you may know and ask them questions/concerns you may have. All the best.

Hey guys, how is the Trent Compressed program? How are the placements and will I have trouble finding a job compared to nurses from mac, uoft, western, queens etc.? I'm still waiting on mac, uoft and western but I still want to feel optimistic about Trent if I don't get accepted into the other schools. Thanks!

Hey everyone! This might be a silly question, but for McMaster, does anyone know if they will look at your final grades for the current semester (Winter 2021)? PS I'm a potential internal transfer

I don't think mac looks at Winter grades

Hey I'm not sure if anyone knows this but if I am graduating this year and finishing all my courses before May and I take an additional course at Athabasca in June is that technically counted as a part of my GPA?

For those of you who had a prerequisite rejected and are required to retake it to be considered for UofT, did they indicate when the courses need to be completed by? I know for Athabasca you have to register by May 10th to start June 1st and the Bloomberg website says transcripts are due by June 15th which seems a bit unrealistic.

(For anyone curious my second humanities credit in Latin Studies was rejected to prevent future applicants from having the same issue as me - even though the course covers Roman culture/history it won’t be considered)

Hey, where does it say June 15th on the website? I'm taking AP course (BIOL235) at Athabasca and I've emailed UofT admissions to ask about the deadline and they said it's end of May. Website FAQs says that too.

The course is really comprehensive plus my jobs, I'm trying to finish by 3rd week May and hope grades will be out by the last week.

It’s for people who had a course rejected as a prerequisite, UofT sometimes will offer you the chance to take a make up course as long as the course is completed by July 15 (not June, I realized I mixed it up)

Thank you! That makes sense ?

Hey! When you say end of May, do you mean that our final official transcripts have to be in by end of May or just our unofficial transcripts have to uploaded on join.utoronto to update our grades? I'm taking a psych course at Athabasca for another school (I didn't put it down as a pre-req for UofT) and I'm hoping to finish it by the end of next week so that it takes around 6 weeks to process and be mailed to UofT before the July 15 deadline.

Hey, someone clarified earlier that the July 15 deadline is for people who have rejected prereqs. End of May deadline is for final transcripts for prereq courses currently being taken.

I believe Athabasca mostly emails transcripts to schools now, and that just usually takes a few days.

All transcripts (even unofficial/interim) have to be sent to UofT by Feb1st. For me, I sent in the transcripts for my Ryerson diploma, my Bachelors degree, and my AthabascaU (interim).

I asked UofT admissions that if a student is accepted, when is the final date to complete and send final official transcripts for Winter and prerequisite courses? They said, "Those with conditional offers are required to submit all final official transcripts and clear conditions by July 15." Would this be different for those who have not been accepted yet?

Are you sure we are allowed to email the final official transcripts? I thought it has to be mailed.

I'll email them too just to be sure!
