Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

Hey! I am pretty sure the grades are due in July. I am retaking A&P and have to have it completed by July. I know with Athabasca if you register now you can ask for early access to the course so you can see what the assignments and the syllabus is, you just cannot submit any assignments or write any exams/quizzes. Just remember the timeline of Athabasca so you can book exams and submit assignments in time for UofT deadline. You need to book exams to be invigilated 20 days in advance, and it takes 8-10 days for them to mark and hand back grades. I know with my A&P course, I have the syllabus so I can see what chapters I need to do and I can also see what the tests are on to help me better prepare.

Athabasca will tell you that they don't recommend doing the course for your best interest but you can still enrol! It'll be tough but worth it in the end!

Thank you!! This was amazing! I’m working full time right now so this whole process has been a bit overwhelming but this community is amazing ❤️

Do you happen to know if we will be eligible for conditional offers once enrolled or if we have to wait until July to see if there are spots left?

Thank you again and good luck to everyone navigating this process! (And congratulations to those who’ve been accepted!)

For those who just got accepted into Trent, what was your GPA/average?

I was accepted yesterday and had GPA of ~3.75 for my last 20 courses

So I actually got a conditional offer yesterday! I would be hopeful you could hear back from them earlier than July. I had to show proof of my enrolment and then I got my offer yesterday (admissions contacted me earlier in the week)

I feel the same way I am trying to cram a full year A&P course into a month and a half and although it seems doable its very stressful! If this is the school you want though I would seriously consider doing it as from my personal experience I think you still do have a chance.

Again I don't want to say this will happen to everyone as everyones applications are different but I also want you all to know it is possible. I has written UofT off because of my mistake with my A&P course and now I actually have a chance as long as I meet my conditions!

Hang in there everyone, and just know whatever happens will happen for a reason and you will end up where you're meant to be! ?

In the conditional offer what is the deadline for completing your A&P?

They want my final grade by July 15th

Hi everyone,

Congrats to everyone who have received offers! I just had a question for internal applicants to the UofT nursing program. I am still waiting for UofT but do I need to take any action regarding sending in my final transcripts after this semester? I am already a uoft student so im wondering if I have to inform them when my marks are out or will they already have direct access to them?

Thanks!

You don't need to send anything - they can just look up everything on the computer!

Hi guys!
I was hoping to get some of your thoughts on which school I should pick especially based off areas such as curriculum and placement. I recently got accepted to both Uoft and Western and I cant seem to decide especially since the deadline is so soon. Is anyone able to to offer some insight of what they heard about these schools program both good and bad! Id really appreciate the guidance:) thanks in advance!!

Did you ever end up deciding which school you will go to?? I also got accepted to Western and UofT but decided to choose UofT in the end. It's a really great program and bonus points cuz I get to live at home!!

Hey Everyone! Huge congrats to everyone who has gotten in to their top choices, and to all other (like myself) it is still early days for UofT, so hold in there ?

I had a question that I am seemingly not having much luck finding from Google that maybe someone could help provide some insight on haha.

I graduated in 2016 from Guelph, so already have a GPA from this degree that I have submitted to UofT. I was missing 1.0 full credit in humanities, so I am currently taking 2 courses from Guelph Open-ED to fulfill the pre req requirement. Since I now have a new student number, log in ect.. these courses would not count toward my undergraduate GPA correct? I was under the impression that, similar to those taking Athabasca courses, UofT would just give conditional offers for students to maintain a 70% in these courses. I have exams coming up (and working a full time and part time job ?) so just wondering if I should consider taking time off to get really high marks in these courses.

Correct, they won’t count them within your GPA as they were taken after you graduated. They only look at courses taken during your undergrad for GPA calculation:)

Hi guys! This might seem irrelevant to this topic, but how did you guys know that you want to be a nurse? I'm in 4th year, and applied to accelerated nursing programs. I have been debating for a while if I'm good enough to be a nurse or WANT to be a nurse. I have been extremely stressed because I don't want to get into something I don't like and then end up regretting it.

Even if you get accepted, you will have a good amount of time to think it over and change your mind and decline the offer so don't stress too much about the time. I think rather than focusing on if you will be a good nurse, focus on if you want to be a nurse and really evaluate why you have the reservations you have. Why do you think you will regret choosing this career? Is there another career path that would give you more satisfaction? Sometimes it could just be your gut telling you that it may not be the best choice, and hey, I'm sure many of us have experienced that feeling in our lives!

Also, you can always take a gap year to think things over and to REALLY assess what you want to do. Maybe even try shadowing a nurse or something to get a better picture of the profession. We are all still pretty young so don't stress too much about choosing your one and only path - life is so unpredictable! But keep in mind that with nursing, there are SO many career options out there for you after!
