Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

I applied to UBC, Queens, UofT and Western!! I don't think my CASPer test went well though and these programs are so competitive!

How about you?

I applied to Nipissing, York and UofT. I feel the same way about the casper test and both Nipissing and York don't have personal statements so its just GPA and casper scores. I wish they told us what wee get because just knowing that would put me at ease.

Whats your top choice?

Also I've heard UBC tells applicants their casper scores. I know they did last year I am not sure if they still do this

I feel the same way, I dread going to look at them but for some reasoning I cant stop checking. Where did you apply?

Feeling super sad! I havent received any admissions letters yet and am starting to feel a bit hopeless

Don’t be sad ! You’ll definitely hear back soon ! Fingers crossed for you! Are you in your final year! I know most offers come a bit later for those in the final year cause they wanna wait for prereq grades, etc. So don’t stress ?

Hey don't feel worried about not getting any acceptances yet! I can only speak for Queens but the SoN here does rolling admissions and won't have a full class roster until mid Summer. I got my offer in April last year I think? And one of my friends in the program got off the waiting list at the very end of July or early August. There is still SO much time. Definitely way too early to panic! (I know that's easier said than done.)

Hey everyone, huge congratulations to everyone that has heard back from schools, and to anyone that hasn't please hang on in there ?

I am looking for advice. I was taking anatomy as a prerequisite for Western/ Nipissing SPP and did not get my final grade above 60%, which is the requirement for Western. Nipissing says they just need you to pass the prerequisite, however I know it's a very competitive program!

I'm completely at a loss of what to do because I was sure I was going to get that 60%. Nipissing SPP is where I really, really, really want to be. I already have competitive grades from my undergrad, Master's, and other prereqs. I'm not sure if they will accept me with my low Anatomy mark.

It looks like the only two options I have are to send in the mark I have right now or to sign up for the Athabasca Anatomy/Physiology online course and complete it as quickly as I can, as long as Western and Nipissing will accept this grade instead of the one I got from my U of T anatomy course.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this situation?

When do you need to have the prereq done? I'm doing the anatomy course through AU right now and it is very, very time consuming. 3 exams, 3 assignments, 3 quizzes, 29 chapters to read. You do already have the knowledge around anatomy so it shouldn't be as hard as it is for me, but I am attempting to finish this year-long course in 3.5 months to have my mark by April 15th (for uOttawa) and it is verrrrrry challenging to get everything in so quickly.

Hey! I think this would totally depend on your personal situation and if you think you'd be able to complete thee course in time. I know with Nipissing gives you a bit more time and you have until the end of June to meet a conditional offer and have the course completed but I'm not sure about Westerns time frame.

Would you be not submitting the UofT mark at all and taking Athabasca, or will they be seeing this mark from UofT even if you retake the course?

I know from the few people I have talked to regarding SPP, they did well in their pre reqs, but I'm not sure if thats because the schools look at pre req grades, or they don't and they did well on all the other components of their application.

Overall, I would look to see if you feel you can personally finish that course in the short time period or not, and specifically look at when each university you're applying to would need the grade by. I think this would help guide your decision a bit more, because the earlier the date the harder it would be to meet this requirement.

I hope all does go well with you with whatever decision you make ?

Hey! I am currently taking the Athabasca AP as well, started Feb 1st and to be honest, I am struggling as I have other commitments. My goal is end of May (for UofT). Nipissing's deadline is end of June. I am hoping to get to Nipissing as well and hoping that I get the admission news sooner so I can slow down the AP and really work on having a good grade.

Sorry not much of a help but wish you the best of luck!
